It appears that John Williams has confirmed that Indiana Jones 5 will be his last picture as a movie composer, and it’s possible that Harrison Ford may retire from acting after the release of the film.
Williams, whose film soundtracks include those for Star Wars, Indiana Jones, and Jaws, recently told Associated Press (opens in new tab) “Harrison Ford, who is a lot younger than me, has apparently said that Indiana Jones 5 will be his last film, and I’m now working on it. Because of this, I reasoned, if Harrison can accomplish it, maybe I can, too.”
Note, however, that the composer’s first major break came with 1958’s Daddy-O, and thus nothing is set in stone at this time. I don’t want to give the impression that I’m completely ruling out any possibility, he stated. “I can’t play tennis, but it’s nice to think that maybe someday I will,” the speaker said.
For his part, Ford has been mum about his professional future and whether or not Indy 5 will be his last time behind the wheel. In a film to be directed by James Mangold, he will reprise his role as a renowned archaeologist. Ford revealed the first look at Indiana Jones 5 at Star Wars Celebration, although it just featured a brief shot of Indy with his trademark helmet and yellow lighting.
In a recent interview, Indiana Jones producer Frank Marshall also stoked anticipation for the character’s comeback. I think you’re going to be extremely satisfied with this movie,” Marshall said to the Academy’s digital magazine A.frame(opens in new tab). It has everything a movie about Indiana Jones should have, in my opinion.
The release date of Indiana Jones 5 is slated for June 30, 2023, with Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Antonio Banderas, Boyd Holbrook, and Mads Mikkelsen joining the cast. Movies aren’t the only thing we have in store for you, so check out our release date guide to see what else is coming out soon.

First, look at Harrison Ford’s return to action in “Indiana Jones 5”
If you didn’t already know, Star Wars Celebration is in full swing. Every year, fans get together to celebrate everything Star Wars and, by extension, everything made by Lucasfilm. The event is a big part of the pop culture calendar because it is always full of exciting news. After just one day, we’ve already seen so many amazing reveals.
The first trailer for Star Wars: Andor has been released. The show will start on August 31 with two episodes. Star Wars: Andor takes place five years before Rogue One. It follows the main character, Andor, through a rebel uprising. The third season of The Mandalorian also has a release date. In February 2023, everyone’s favorite father and son team will be back. Lucasfilm also gave us our first look at Indiana Jones 5, as if that wasn’t enough.
Getting Indiana Jones 5 to where it is now has been a dangerous journey. Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull came out in 2008, so it’s been a while since we’ve seen this archaeology professor on the big screen. Work on Indiana Jones 5 began in 2012, but since then, the script has been rewritten several times and the film’s director has changed. Then, the pandemic hit.
So, yesterday, on the first day of the Star Wars Celebration, Lucasfilm announced that Indiana Jones 5 will finally come out on June 30, 2023. With the news, a picture was shown for the first time that showed Harrison Ford back in action. Look at the list below.
The still doesn’t reveal anything about the plot, but if you’re a fan of the series like I am, it’s great to see Harrison Ford wearing the famous fedora again. Ford will be joined by a lot of new actors, such as Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Mads Mikkelsen, Toby Jones, and Antonio Banderas. I think we’re in for a nice surprise.
