On Thursday night, news of the radio host’s death began to circulate online after a Facebook post by a man named James Pilgrim announced that his brother-in-law, Mark, had passed away. The radio station where Pilgrim worked before and during his diagnosis, HOT 1027 FM, issued a statement confirming that the story was false.

James Pilgrim writes on Facebook about his brother-in-battle law’s with cancer, leading social media users to believe he was referring to Mark Pilgrim of South Africa.

“I just want to let everyone know that my brother-in-law. Mark passed away early this morning. Mark had cancer and was given 6-12 months to live, but he fought it for 22 months,” the post reads.

Instead, they are of Mark Pilgrim, an Alabama resident in the United States. Mark Pilgrim of South Africa has since retweeted HOT 1027 FM’s announcement and continues to provide regular updates on his condition.

The beloved 53-year-old spent time with his daughters and three special guests during his most recent vacation. After months of recovering from a collapsed lung, Pilgrim revealed that he had resumed chemotherapy and immunotherapy a few days prior.

In 1988, it was reported that Mark Pilgrim was diagnosed with testicular cancer. According to the National Cancer Institute, testicular cancer develops in testicular tissue. This form of cancer is most prevalent among young and middle-aged men.” Pilgrim has cancer in stage four.

According to Cancer.Net, “at this stage, cancer has spread to other organs or body parts. It may also be referred to as advanced or metastatic cancer. The radio personality had lung and kidney cancer diagnosed.
