Carter was born and raised in Plains, Georgia, graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 1946, and then enlisted in the United States Navy as a submarine officer. After returning home, he revitalized his family’s peanut-growing enterprise. He then demonstrated his opposition to racial segregation, supported the expanding civil rights movement, and joined the Democratic Party as an activist. He served in the Georgia State Senate from 1963 to 1967 before being elected governor of Georgia in 1970. Carter, a lesser-known candidate outside of Georgia, won the Democratic nomination for president in 1976 and narrowly defeated incumbent Republican president Gerald Ford in the 1976 United States presidential election.

What Is Hospice Care? 

According to the National Institute on Aging of the National Institutes of Health, hospice care is provided to patients who choose to forego treatment for a terminal illness and have a life expectancy of fewer than six months.

Amy Tucci, president of the Hospice Foundation of America, stated, “Its goal is to help people die pain-free, with dignity, and surrounded by family and friends.” Therefore, it is an extraordinary thing.
