Who’s Allan Doll? Michael Cera Set to Play the Forgotten Character in Margot Robbie’s Barbie Movie
The highly anticipated Barbie movie, directed by Greta Gerwig and co-written with her husband Noah Baumbach, is set to hit the big screen in June 2023. With a star-studded cast and beach-themed vibes, the film is sure to bring the iconic Mattel franchise to life. Among the A-list celebrities is Michael Cera, known for his roles in Superbad and Scott Pilgrim vs the World.
Who is Allan Doll?
Michael Cera’s casting is a delightful surprise, as he is set to play Allan, a long-forgotten character from the Barbie lineup. Originally introduced in 1964 as Ken’s best friend alongside Midge, Barbie’s best friend, the Allan doll was short-lived and eventually replaced by a character named Brad.
The original Allan doll, named after the son-in-law of Mattel co-founder Ruth Handler, came dressed in a beach shirt and was marketed as being able to fit into Ken’s clothes. This made Allan an appealing option for expanding the Barbie universe at the time. However, the specifics of Cera’s portrayal of Allan in the upcoming film remain unknown.
