Todd Bowles’s Life Story

Todd Robert Bowles was born on November 18, 1963, in Elizabeth, New Jersey, to African American parents. He attended Elizabeth High School as a student. He began playing football there, and following his time in high school, he went on to play for Temple University’s Temple Owls football team in college.

Todd Bowles was a professional player from 1986 to 1993. He was a free agent after the NFL Draft and played for the Redskins for five seasons before joining the Washington Redskins.

Todd worked for the Green Bay Packers from 1995 to 1996, shortly after he retired. In 1997, he was appointed defensive coordinator at Morehouse College. Then, from 1998 to 1999, he was the defensive backs coach at Grambling State University.

From 2000 to 2007, he was employed by the New York Jets, the Cleveland Browns, the Dallas Cowboys, and the Cleveland Browns. After serving as the Miami Dolphins’ assistant head coach for four years beginning in 2008, Bowles was named the team’s temporary head coach. His record at the end of the 2011 season was 2–1.

Due to his stellar record, Bowles was sought after by numerous other NFL teams. After that, he became a defensive coordinator and secondary coach with the Philadelphia Eagles. After the 2012 campaign, he departed the team.

The Arizona Cardinals signed Bowles as a defensive coordinator in January 2013. It was his 2014 season that earned him the title of AP Assistant Coach of the Year. After departing from the Cardinals in 2015, he re-entered the New York Jets for the second time.

Bowles became the head coach of the Jets following the dismissal of coach Rex Ryan. In December 2017, Bowles was retained by the Jets after agreeing to a four-year contract with the team.
