Trinbagonian artist and Carnival costume designer Peter Minshall is a national treasure. He has gained international renown for his spectacular, creative, and often politically charged designs for Carnival parades. In the 1970s, Minshall began working as a costume designer and immediately became known for his groundbreaking creations. In particular, his use of wire and other materials to construct lightweight, flexible, aesthetically attractive, and extremely useful costumes has earned him widespread renown.

Minshall’s most well-known creations are “River,” which represented a river formed from blue fabric and the bodies of the masqueraders, and “The Golden Calaloo,” which included a gigantic, multicolored okra plant.
