The Wizarding World will soon have its own open-world role-playing game, Hogwarts Legacy. It is set in the 1800s, far before Harry Potter, so there is a whole new cast of characters to meet and an entirely new story to discover as you ride broomsticks and concoct potions.
It was first announced at the September 2020 PS5 showcase, and subsequent trailers for the adventure have been released various times since then, with the most recent appearing at the Gamescom Opening Night Live 2022 event.
Hogwarts Legacy, which had been expected in 2021 but was pushed to Holiday 2022, has now been confirmed to be in theaters in February 2023. Everything we know about Hogwarts Legacy, including the story, the gameplay, the platforms, and more, is included below.
When will Hogwarts Legacy get released?
Even though Warner Bros. Games previously stated that Hogwarts Legacy would be released in “Holiday 2022,” the game’s release date has been pushed back to February 10, 2023.
The release date of the game was originally slated for 2021, then it was pushed back to April 2022, then to a holiday window, and now it will not come out until 2023.
Where can I get the Hogwarts Legacy?
The release date is set for February, and it will be available for the Xbox Series X, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and PC. A release date for Hogwarts Legacy on Switch has not been announced, but it is expected to arrive “soon.”
Plot of Hogwarts Legacy
The game’s story is set in the nineteenth century, and it revolves around a character you design. With mysterious magical abilities, your protagonist is entering his or her fifth year at Hogwarts. Other significant issues include a possible goblin insurrection that might spread throughout Hogwarts and the Wizarding World, a mysterious corrupting magical force, and evil wizards and witches.
The player’s main character in Hogwarts Legacy will be a fully realized witch or wizard that they have created from scratch. Since it takes place in the nineteenth century, the players’ narratives will be utterly distinct from those of the well-known heroes of the Wizarding World.
While most of the cast from the Harry Potter films and books will not be present in Hogwarts Legacy, the State of Play featured some recognizable faces, such as Gryffindor’s house ghost Nearly Headless Nicky Nick, and Peeves, the mischievous spirit from the Harry Potter books.
The game takes place in and around Hogwarts, including familiar spots like Hogsmeade Village and the Forbidden Forest, as well as brand new areas of the Wizarding World.
Harry Potter and the Tale of His School’s Progeny
In the Hogwarts Legacy narrative, you will take control of a fully modifiable character who is transferring into the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry as a fifth-year student. You are also the person who knows an “ancient secret that threatens to tear the wizarding world apart,” as it turns out.
You have the power to manipulate mysterious ancient magic, and now it is up to you to discover why it is making a comeback and who else is attempting to get their hands on it. There are several decades between this and the familiar Hogwarts era (the late 1800s), which is when this story takes place.
While not a straight adaptation of the novels and films, Hogwarts Legacy will be “anchored in Wizarding World lore,” meaning that Harry, Ron, and Hermione will not be making an appearance.
Players will not only experience what it is like to be a Hogwarts student but also “embark on a dangerous journey to uncover a hidden truth of the wizarding world,” as promised by Warner Bros. Games.
A frightening villain must be defeated in this original, never-before-told tale developed by Portkey Games and Avalanche. John Blackburn, Avalanche’s studio general manager, said, “It’s such an honor to work on such an amazing franchise, and the team is dedicated to delivering an authentic Wizarding World experience that both Harry Potter and RPG fans will enjoy,”
The uniqueness of Hogwarts Legacy lies in the fact that it presents players with a brand new storyline populated by nuanced personalities and, of course, magic.
Experience the magic of Hogwarts in this game!
Hogwarts Legacy’s State of Play highlighted a wide variety of gameplay-related aspects, while the game itself offers practically every imaginable type of Wizarding World gameplay.
In addition to being sorted into one of four houses and attending lessons, learning spells, brewing potions, growing plants, and exploring Hogwarts, players will also get to roam the entire castle.
If your character does not start at Hogwarts until their fifth year, they will need to do extra work on top of the usual curriculum to catch up. Your characters can use the Room of Requirement as a central location for all their magical requirements.
The Room of Requirement is tailored to each user to help them improve their magical skills by allowing them to focus on areas where they are weak. This is the player’s personal alchemy lab, where they can make potions, cultivate plants, and improve their equipment.
Players of Hogwarts Legacy will have access to their very own menagerie, which they may customize to their desire and house all manner of magical creatures in, something to Newt Scamander’s bewitched luggage in the Fantastic Beasts films. The Room of Need houses this collection of animals.
Your combat style is entirely up to you, including the way you cast spells, compete in duels, and engage in other forms of conflict. In combat, you can use your characters’ unknown particular skills in addition to curses, spells, potions, and enchanted weapons. According to the State of Play showcase, the finest duelists combine various attacking and defensive spells, potions, and magical plants.
A fundamental component of Hogwarts Legacy gameplay is an upgradeable talent and skill system related to spells, abilities, potions, and plants. Wizarding prowess can be upgraded and improved through the accumulation of experience gained from completing tasks in the Wizarding World.
Mastering the skill of flight on a broomstick is another playable pastime that speeds up travel throughout the world in Hogwarts Legacy. Players can form bonds with the NPCs they encounter, get to know their backstories and personalities, and even gain new wizarding skills from their partners.
Is there a prequel to the Hogwarts series?
Hogwarts Legacy, a prequel game to the Harry Potter series, has released a trailer focused entirely on the use of black magic. If you make friends with a mystery kid from Slytherin, you will have to decide between doing what is right and doing what is easy.
