Modern technology gives us many things.

‘High on Life’: Everything We Know So Far About the Game!

At the Xbox and Bethesda Showcase 2022, Squanch Games unveiled High on Life, a game that would go on to become a festival favorite. There was not much to see in the clip announcing it, but we did get a good dose of Justin Roiland’s trademark comedy and a glimpse of the game in action.

Then, in a new gameplay clip shown at Gamescom 2022, players got a long look at what seems to be an early boss fight, complete with cussing firearms and wacky one-liners. The game’s full scope is beginning to take shape, so those who enjoy “comedy shooters” can look forward to it later this year.

Every piece of information about High on Life has been compiled here, from the game’s release window and trailers to its multiplayer capabilities and beyond.

Release Date

The release date of High on Life for Xbox and PC is set for December 13th. The release date of November had been planned. However, the development team now needs more time to fix several flaws.

Platforms on which the Games are available

It should come as no surprise that High on Life will be available for the Xbox Series X, Xbox One, and PC (through Steam and the Epic Games Store) upon its release next year, as this was announced during the Xbox and Bethesda Showcase 2022. Furthermore, it will be accessible via Xbox Game Pass from the get-go.

Due to its status as a Console Launch Exclusive, High on Life will likely never be released for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, or Switch. On the other hand, there is always the remote possibility that this is a timed-exclusivity arrangement and that the game will be released for other platforms when the specified length of time has passed.

But for the time being, it is safest to assume that the future adventure will only be available on Xbox and PC.

Game Trailers

Three trailers have been released so far: one during the Xbox and Bethesda Games Showcase 2022, one at the Extended Showcase, and one at Gamescom 2022 showing off gameplay. The first trailer, clocking in little under two minutes, showcases the game’s striking visual aesthetic, as well as extensive gameplay footage and an irreverent sense of humor.

The three-minute-long gameplay trailer for Gamescom 2022 provides a closer look at a High on Life monster fight. The behind-the-scenes trailer, meanwhile, provides an in-depth look at the game’s creation alongside extensive commentary. At long last, we present the Gamescom 2022 trailer.

It looks like an early boss encounter, and the game shows its age by giving us a close look at it. The good news is that our hands-on demo showed that the game is more fun to play than it looks.

How is the Game played?

It is a first-person shooter with an utterly zany story, and it is called High on Life. You play as a recent high school grad contending with an alien invasion of “get high off humanity” aliens.

Considering it was made by the same person responsible for Rick and Morty and Solar Opposites, it is safe to assume that the game’s story and absurd humor will be major selling points. This, of course, does not mean that the gameplay will not be enjoyable.

High on Life was advertised as an “action-adventure comedy Metroidvania first-person shooter” during the teaser. While it is impossible to predict how significant any of these terms will be in the final product, they provide some insight into the game’s mechanics.

To begin with, as the player advances through the game, they will get access to new powers and weapons that will be helpful in combat and open up previously inaccessible places. It is also to be expected that humor will play a significant role.

In addition, we now know that High on Life will not feature an open universe. Instead, you will go via predetermined levels that provide a reasonably linear experience powered by its hilarious writing and beautiful visuals.

However, you will have some say over which sequence you complete these stages. Boss battles appear at regular intervals (as shown in the Gamescom 2022 trailer), and having a wide variety of skills available is essential to survive them.

Multiplayer

As of yet, High on Life’s online play is unknown. It appears that the forthcoming game will focus solely on the individual player. Since neither cooperative nor competitive multiplayer for High on Life is mentioned on the game’s official Xbox page, it seems unlikely that either mode will be included.

Can we Pre-order the Game?

Pre-orders for High on Life can be placed now on Squanch Games’ website and the Xbox Store.
