Antonio Conte said he wouldn’t let his Tottenham players put the World Cup ahead of their club in the next few weeks. The tournament starts next month, and some of the best players might not be able to play because they got hurt in recent games for their clubs.
Conte said on Monday that Brazil forward Richarlison should be back from a muscle injury he got against Everton before the World Cup. He did say that it was hard to see his summer signing cry because he thought he might not be able to play.

“For sure, the player was distraught after the game,” Conte said. “The World Cup is coming up in just one month. Because of this, I think any player hurt during this time could be troubled. Every player’s dream is to play in the World Cup.

I’m glad, especially for the player, because of this. For the club and me, it’s okay, but I know how important this competition is for the players. Knowing that he could play makes me happy because I was sad to see him so worried when I got home after the game.

But Conte then made it clear that he won’t let Spurs players back out of tackles to avoid getting hurt before the World Cup.

“It’s impossible to know what will happen. We have to deal with this situation, as does every other club, but I know one thing for sure: if a player plays worried about getting hurt, it will happen,” he said.
