Plot of ‘Chief of War’

According to Variety’s synopsis, “Chief of War” takes a look back in time to “trace the story of the unification and colonization of Hawaii” from the perspective of the indigenous people who experienced it firsthand. The project seems to have been born out of Momoa’s own interests; the actor has always been open about his pride in his Hawaiian roots (his father is of native Hawaiian and Samoan descent, while his mother is of Pawnee lineage). Based on this, it took place sometime between 1795 and 1810, when King Kamehameha I finally managed to bring the Hawaiian islands under a single monarchy following years of fighting.
