With superhero films ranging from Avengers: Endgame and WandaVision to Spider-Man: Homecoming, it’s difficult to argue that Marvel isn’t the most dominant force in the industry.
As a result of the release of a number of highly anticipated films in 2022, including the Batman film series, The Flash, and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, it appears as though DC Universe is poised to give it’s rival a run for its money in the coming year.
Another upcoming DC film, Black Adam, is set to hit theatres in 2022 and will star Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, who is best known for his role as Dwayne the Rock in the WWE.
And now, thanks to a stunning new trailer that was released over the weekend of the Super Bowl, fans have their first look at a cloaked Johnson in his role as the long-imprisoned arch-enemy of Shazam.
As a voice-over states, “Adam is looking up at a couple of approaching helicopters” in the clip, which serves as a teaser for all of DC’s 2022 movies “My son wished for a better world than the one he had… That’s why he came to my rescue.”
Additionally, co-star Pierce Brosnan appears in character as the mystical Doctor Fate in the trailer. “Come with us, there’s a glorious world out there, waiting for you,” he says as he stares off into the distance at Black Adam.
Johnson shared his thoughts on Black Adam on Instagram after the filming was completed in mid-July 2021. Johnson wrote: “I knew many years ago that the opportunity to work on BLACK ADAM would be a ONCE IN A CAREER EVENT for me, and I planned accordingly. Over 1,000 brilliant and hungry filmmakers and storytellers worked side by side to bring the antihero known as BLACK ADAM to life, and it has been a true honor to work alongside them.”
A whole Justice Society is expected to be formed as a result of this blockbuster, which will significantly expand the DC Extended Universe. That’s about all we know about Black Adam, including a confirmed release date.

Black Adam Cast
Dwayne Johnson has been cast in the lead role of Shazam, after the former WWE star spent years circling the characters of Black Adam and Shazam, finally settling on the former due to his unexpectedly rebellious nature. The film will be released on April 5, 2019.
Noah Centineo has also been cast in the role of Atom Smasher, a DC Comics superhero who has the ability to manipulate his size and strength, growing up to 60 feet tall when necessary.
Hawkman will be played by Aldis Hodge (The Invisible Man) in the upcoming blockbuster, according to Variety. Hawkman was most recently seen on DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, where he was accompanied by close ally Hawkgirl.
The character is frequently depicted as a human archaeologist named Carter Hall – or as his alien counterpart, Katar Hol – who is armed with large (artificial) wings that allow him to soar through the air with great speed.
Aside from that, Quintessa Swindell (Trinkets) has also been cast in the film, where she will play the wind-controlling superhero Cyclone. Aladdin and The Old Guard star Marwan Kenzari has also been cast in the film, though his role has not yet been revealed.
The Hollywood Reporter reported in March 2021 that Pierce Brosnan will portray the magical hero Doctor Fate, marking the actor’s first superhero role since his James Bond days. The former James Bond will play the magical hero for the first time in his career.
Doctor Fate first appeared in DC comics in 1940 as the son of an archaeologist who was endowed with sorcery abilities by the magical Helmet of Fate. He went on to become a founding member of the Justice Society and was the son of an archaeologist himself.
Sarah Shahi, best known for her role in the television series Sex/Life, will also appear in Black Adam, according to Deadline, where she will play “a university professor and freedom fighter leading the resistance in Kahndaq,” who goes by the name Adrianna.
Shahi revealed in a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter that she didn’t know what movie she was auditioning for when she initially submitted her tape, as well as explaining why she is so excited about her casting.
“I’m from the Middle East; I’m Persian.” In addition, there isn’t a lot of Middle Eastern representation in the industry ” she explained. “There are other Middle Eastern actors that I am aware of who are either being cast in terrorist roles or who are being stereotyped simply because of their physical appearance. So I’m hoping that, in some way, Black Adam will contribute to the dismantling of that stereotype.”
Additionally, the film’s mystery cast members were revealed at the start of production, with stage star James Cusati-Moyer and Legends of Tomorrow’s Bodhi Sabongui both joining the production in roles that have not yet been revealed (via Deadline and THR).
While this is going on, Uli Latukefu, who is best known for portraying none other than Dwayne Johnson himself in the sitcom Young Rock, has also joined the cast in an unspecified capacity.
There has been a great deal of speculation about which existing DC heroes might appear in Black Adam, with Shazam and Superman being among the most heavily rumored possibilities.
