The Lord of the Rings: Gollum, the upcoming game about, you guessed it, Gollum, has been pushed back again. The message on the official Twitter account said that the game would not come out on September 1 as planned. Instead, it would come out a few months later. The exact date and time have not been said yet.

“We are dedicated to meeting our community’s expectations and uncovering the untold story of Gollum in a way that honors the vision of J.R.R. Tolkien,”  reads the message.

Even though there is no clear date for the game’s release, Daedalic has promised to give an update soon. Even though it sounds bad for fans, the disastrous launch of Cyberpunk 2077, which was full of glitches that broke the game, shows how important delays and fixing bugs can be for any game. The GTA Trilogy remastered launch is a more recent example. Rockstar Games had to pull the game from sale on PC.

The Lord of the Rings: Gollum, which was announced in 2019, is based on J. R. R. Tolkien’s original books, not the movie trilogy. Players will be taken to old Middle Earth and learn about Gollum’s journey after Bilbo Baggins steals the One Ring from him. Think of it as an introduction to The Fellowship of the Ring by Peter Jackson.

This month, the studio showed the first gameplay footage for Gollum. It was accompanied by a voiceover that talked about how he has split personalities and can switch between being shy and evil. Most of the game’s mechanics were based on sneaking around, like moving your hunched body through bushes and up high places. There isn’t a lot of action in this, but it’s well thought out. During the decision-making process, players will switch between Gollum and Sméagol’s personalities. This will lead to a passive or aggressive style of play.

A swimming mechanic was also shown, but it was in first-person, which makes me wonder if you can switch between cameras whenever you want to. Fans were pretty harsh on the trailer, and many pointed out that the graphics and textures looked old, which was a bad sign since the game was coming out in just two months. Daedalic seems to have thought about these problems, which is why an overall polish has been put off.
