iPhone 14 Pro is FINALLY Getting This Killer Feature!

This Killer Feature Is Finally Coming To The iPhone 14 Pro!

News Tech

The iPhone 14 Pro may finally get a screen that stays on all the time. And now we know more about what you could do with it.

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman said that the always-on display on the iPhone will be able to show “weather, calendars, stocks, activities, and other information” (AOD). Also, it looks like there will be a setting like the one on the Apple Watch 7 to keep sensitive information from showing up on the AOD. This way, if someone looks at your phone, they won’t see any personal information by accident.

Gurman had already said that the iPhone 14 Pro would have an AOD, but now he says that Apple is finally using a feature that some of the best Android phones have had for years, thanks to iOS 16 and the new lock screen. He says that the new look and new app widgets on the lock screen of the next iPhone operating system are made to work with an always-on screen.

For always-on displays to work well, the screen needs to have a low refresh rate and low brightness levels to save power. That’s why Apple hasn’t been able to add AODs to older iPhones, and it’s probably also why this feature will only be available on the iPhone 14 Pro.

The iPhone 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max have adaptive refresh rates, but they can only go down to a minimum of 10Hz instead of the 1Hz that is needed for an AOD to work well. So far, there have been rumors that the iPhone 14 Pro models will be able to lower the refresh rate of their displays to 1Hz. Unfortunately, the standard iPhone 14 is not expected to get this upgrade.

The AOD is just one of the new features that the new Pro iPhones will have. Gurman confirms that Apple is also adding a 48MP main camera, making the bezels around the screen thinner, upgrading the chip to a new A16 model, and replacing the iPhone’s signature notch with a pill and punch-hole cutout design.

Gurman also says that all iPhone 14 models, both Pro and non-Pro, will get a new selfie camera. Unfortunately, he also backs up earlier rumors that the iPhone 14 won’t get any other big hardware updates. Instead, it’s expected to stick with the same A15 Bionic chipset found in the iPhone 13 series.

But the 5.4-inch iPhone 13 mini might be replaced by a new 6.7-inch iPhone 14 Max model. This could be good news for people who want a bigger screen but don’t want to pay more for the Pro Max model, as they would have to do right now.

Gurman says that this could happen with the iPhone 15 next year, for those who are waiting for the iPhone to use USB-C. Bad news: an Apple insider says that all four of the rumored iPhone 14 models will still use Lightning ports.

Most likely, Apple won’t confirm or disprove any of these rumors until September, when the iPhone 14 is officially released.
