The Rehearsal, created by Nathan Fielder, has been renewed for a second season on HBO. This news comes just days before the series’ first-season finale. The first episode of the comedy docuseries debuted last month to rave reviews and a large audience.
Tonight, August 19, at 9 p.m., you can watch the season finale of the show on HBO Max.
In The Rehearsal, we watch as Fielder helps regular people get ready for their big performances. For his clients, Fielder and his team “rehearse” upcoming life events in “carefully crafted simulations of their own design,” which involve building elaborate sets and hiring actors. In the premiere, Fielder helps a man practice telling his bar trivia team that he doesn’t have a Master’s Degree by setting up a life-size replica of the bar and having actors play his friends.

All the weird and brilliant ideas that Fielder’s fans have come to expect from him are present in The Rehearsal. He has built his career on capturing regular people acting ridiculously on camera. In Nathan For You, another fan favorite, Fielder offered assistance to local businesses by way of unconventional, sometimes absurd suggestions.
In one episode, the characters use a legal loophole to launch a parody coffee shop called “Dumb Starbucks,” and in another, they use the novelty of “poo” flavored frozen yogurt to boost business at a nearby shop. Fielder is an executive producer on HBO’s How To with John Wilson and contributed to Who Is America with Sasha Baron Cohen.
Amy Gravitt, the Executive Vice President of HBO Programming, said that the show will be back for a second season.
Fielder has multiple roles in The Rehearsal, including those of writer, director, and executive producer. Fielder, along with Carrie Kemper and Eric Notarnicola, penned the series. Notarnicola has written for Nathan for You and Who is America?, while Kemper has contributed to The Office, Nathan for You, and Silicon Valley. Clark Reinking, Dave Paige, Christie Smith, and Dan McManus are among the show’s executive producers.

In its first season, which concludes Friday with its sixth and final episode, Fielder took viewers as well as participants through a variety of situations as they explored the potential outcomes of several real-life instances in his social experiment.
In Fielder’s pilot scenario, it assists a man in practicing how to confess to his trivia partner that he has been lying about his educational background. In the following episodes, a woman practices being a parent with the help of dozens of child actors in an elaborate simulation. As the series continues, Fielder becomes more invested in his characters.

Tonight, August 19, at 10 p.m. ET/PT on HBO and HBO Go, the season one finale of The Rehearsal will air for the first time. Below is the series’ official summary:
In ‘THE REHEARSAL’, we see how far one man will go to smooth over life’s bumps. With a construction crew, a legion of actors, and seemingly unlimited resources, Fielder allows ordinary people to prepare for life’s biggest moments by “rehearsing” them in carefully crafted simulations of his own design. When a single misstep could shatter your entire world, why leave life to chance?
