After that, the final shot depicts Waithe’s figure smoking and resting against a tree, obviously contemplating his next move.

The principal romantic interest of Dev in the first season was Rachel Silva played by Nol Wells (season 1; guest season 2). Rachel is a publicist for the music industry.

  • Dev’s lesbian buddy Denise is played by Lena Waithe. Waithe revealed in an interview with Entertainment Weekly that Ansari wanted Denise’s personality to resemble Waithe’s own, so they modified her section to represent her being African-American and lesbian.
  • Brian Chang (seasons 1–2), the son of Taiwanese immigrants and a friend of Dev’s. After speaking with Yu in an interview for Vulture.com, it was revealed that Brian resembled “Dev’s mellow, incredibly good looking pal and collaborator Alan Yang on screen” and was a “hottie.”
  • When Dev first meets Francesca (Alessandra Mastronardi) in the second season, she is an Italian woman whom he quickly falls in love with. She visits him in New York City later in life.
  • Naomi Ackie: She played Alicia, Denise’s wife in season 3.

Todd Barry, who portrays a movie director named Todd, Colin Salmon, who portrays a fictionalised version of himself, H. Jon Benjamin, who portrays Benjamin, an acting colleague on the film The Sickening, Leonard Ouzts, who portrays Lawrence, the producer of Clash of the Cupcakes in the second season, and Ansari’s real-life parents, Shoukath and Fatima, who portray Dev’s parents, are also regulars on the show. In addition to Danielle Brooks and Claire Danes, David Krumholtz and Noah Emmerich made special appearances on the show as well as Bobby Cannavale and John Legend. Other guests were Kym Whitley, Raven-Symoné, Riccardo Scamarcio, Clare-Hope Ashitey and Angela Bassett.
