How did Jimi Hendrix Die?

It is a question that has been asked by fans and historians alike since September 18, 1970: How did Jimi Hendrix die? The rock icon left behind an abundance of music and charisma, but the cause of death remains one of the great mysteries in music history.

On September 18th, 1970, Hendrix was pronounced dead at 12:45 p.m.; authorities found him suffocated at 22 Lansdowne Crescent, Notting Hill, in London. At first glance, it seemed he had just passed away peacefully in his sleep. However, further investigations revealed something far more complex; there were two empty wine bottles near his body and a bottle containing prescription strength sleeping pills. After three days of inquiry and toxicology testing, it was determined that Hendrix died from asphyxiation from inhalation of vomit after an accidental overdose of barbiturates.

Jimi Hendrix and his lover Monika Dannemann drank wine and smoked hashish the night before his death. The couple left her London flat at the Samarkand Hotel in Notting Hill to attend a party organized by the singer’s business associates and returned at approximately 3 a.m. The following morning, Hendrix was found dead, apparently asphyxiated on his vomit after taking too many sleeping medications. At least, such indicated the autopsy. Some say Hendrix committed suicide after becoming disillusioned with the music industry.
