There will be at least one more season of Grey’s Anatomy: Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital! On January 20, 2022, ABC revealed that Ellen Pompeo and Krista Vernoff have signed new contracts for Season 19, putting an end to fears that the medical drama could finally come to a close.

Said Vernoff: “I’m eager to work with our outstanding writers to imagine where we go from here, and I’m always grateful to our partners at Disney and ABC for allowing us to explore bold tales with real effect.'”

For the sake of Meredith, Bailey, Richard and all the other doctors at Grey Sloan Memorial, I couldn’t be more excited that we get to continuing telling their stories for another season,” Shonda Rhimes, who handed the programme over to Vernoff in Season 14, said in a statement. A true credit to Krista, her cast mates, the staff, and the show’s authors, who keep the audience on their toes every single week. And Grey’s Anatomy would not have been possible without the great fans who have supported the show for so many years.

For Meredith and the other doctors at Grey Sloan, what can we expect in Season 19, which premieres later this year? Everything we know about Grey’s Anatomy Season 19 so far can be found right here.

Is Grey’s Anatomy even getting a season 19?

Yes!! We’ve just received word that Grey’s Anatomy will, in fact, return next year, and that Ellen will be returning as well.

However, it was not always clear whether or not this would be the outcome. When asked if the new season of Grey’s Anatomy would be the show’s final season, Craig Erwich (aka the president of ABC Entertainment and Hulu Originals) responded as follows, according to Deadline, when asked if the new season would be the show’s final season:

“Grey’s Anatomy has maintained its position as a ratings powerhouse. This season was a hit with the audience. It seemed to me that Grey’s Anatomy did an absolutely great job this season of portraying the storey about all of the frontline heroes who are waging the good fight (against Covid). “We’ll watch Grey’s Anatomy for as long as we can,” said the family.

Which cast members are returning for Season 19 of Grey’s Anatomy?

According to current expectations, in addition to Pompeo, who portrays Dr. Meredith Grey, original cast members Chandra Wilson (Dr. Miranda Bailey) and James Pickens Jr. (Dr. Richard Webber) are also likely to return for Season 19, following the signing of new multi-year contracts in May 2019.

Kim Raver (Dr. Teddy Altman), Camilla Luddington (Dr. Jo Wilson), and Kevin McKidd (Dr. Owen Hunt) signed three-year contracts in 2019 that would keep them on the show until the end of Season 19. Nevertheless, there is no assurance that the characters on Grey’s Anatomy will live that long; the show is well-known for writing off characters who still have time remaining on their actors’ contracts. Due to the fact that Owen’s fate is still up in the air following the mid-season finale of Season 18, it is unclear whether McKidd will return for Season 19.

The rest of the Season 18 cast has yet to be confirmed, although it’s safe to presume that the majority of them will be returning for Season 19 at this point. Kelly McCreary played Dr. Maggie Pierce, Caterina Scorsone played Dr. Amelia Shepherd, Jake Borelli played Dr. Levi Schmitt, Chris Carmack played Dr. Atticus Lincoln, Richard Flood played Dr. Cormac Hayes, Anthony Hill played Dr. Winston Ndugo, and Scott Speedman played Dr. Nick Marsh, among other series regulars.

What happened in Season 18 of Grey’s Anatomy?

Given that Season 18 is still in progress, we have no way of knowing where Meredith and the other characters will be by the conclusion of the season. At the halfway point of Season 18, Meredith is travelling to Minnesota to work on a new surgical therapy for Parkinson’s illness, which is being funded by renowned neurosurgeon David Hamilton, who is also a guest star on the show (Peter Gallagher). Dr. Kai Bartley, a new character, and her sister (in law) Amelia (Scorsone) have all lent their support to her in her endeavours (E.R. Fightmaster). Meredith has also been seeing Nick, a transplant surgeon who she met while in Minnesota.

Meanwhile, Miranda and Richard have been working to improve the intern training programme at Seattle’s Harborview Medical Center by using the “Webber Method,” which gives surgical residents greater autonomy and independence during surgical procedures. The mid-season finale, however, revealed that Levi and Taryn became overconfident when performing a procedure while alone in the operating room, ultimately resulting in the death of their patient.

In addition to these and other storylines, Season 18 has seen the heartbreaking breakup of Amelia and Link following the birth of their son, Dr. Jo’s specialisation switch to obstetrics, and Owen’s efforts to provide medical care (and, as we learn in the Season 18 mid-season finale, physician assisted suicide in certain cases) to veterans suffering from chronic health issues.

After taking Teddy to safety and entrusting Cormac with his secret about the veterans, Owen was forced to drive down a precipice in a wrecked automobile in the mid-season finale of The Walking Dead. As a result, the outcome of that storyline will most likely be determined by Owen’s survival after the fall.
