Free Guy 2 was something Ryan Reynolds had in mind before, but Free Guy had to be a box office success first. The film has finally hit theaters after several release date delays, and it sees Reynolds playing Guy, who begins to realize he’s an NPC (non-player character) in a video game called “The Game” Free City.
Free Guy 2: Story-Line
When Guy realizes that the future of Free City is threatened by an impending sequel, he teams up with programmers Millie (Jodie Comer) and Keys (Joe Keery) to save his home and all the people who live there .
While it’s not based on a video game, it’s easy to see how Free Guy could become a franchise, and director Shawn Levy admits he’s thinking about a sequel. “I’ve done the franchise start stuff and I’ve done enough to know that you just don’t know the results.
We discussed and endorsed certain ideas,” he explained during the film’s premiere press conference. But if the movie is successful enough to warrant a sequel,
What Can We Expect From Free Guy 2?
After Guy became aware of himself and reached level 102 in Free City, he decided to help Millie – whom he knew to be Molotovgirl in the game – to find a video file that she assumed would prove that Free City is based on one of its games.
Previously, Millie and Keys created a show called Life Itself which was acquired by Soonami, led by Antwan (Taika Waititi). Millie quits Soonami and sues them, but to win she needs proof that Antwan used her code.
Despite Antwan’s efforts to prevent Millie from finding it, Millie and Guy eventually discover that the cipher exists in the Free City just across the border in the form of an island created for Life Itself.
It was because of the Life Itself code that Guy was self-aware that the original game was supposed to develop the characters, leading to Guy becoming the “first real AI”. Keys is based on Guy’s dream girl Millie, so when Guy discovers Molotovgirl in the game, it brings him back to life.
What Is Expected
What’s interesting is how Free Guy 2 can poke fun at the sequel culture and IP in the same way that the first movie joked that no one wanted the original movie. Levy also had a title available based on an Antwan joke.
