Casey Affleck Has Now Spoken Out About #metoo And The Abuse Allegations Filed Against Him. What You Should Know About The Controversy

Casey Affleck wants to talk about the #MeToo movement. The “Manchester by the Sea” actor went on Dax Shepard’s podcast “Armchair Expert,” where he talked about how he dealt with the allegations of wrongdoing against him.

In 2010, two women who worked on his movie “I’m Still Here” sued him. In their lawsuits, they said that he had repeatedly insulted and harassed them sexually. One woman, a cinematographer, said that Affleck crawled into bed with her while she was sleeping while he was drunk. She said she didn’t want him to. The other person, a producer, said that Affleck grabbed her “violently” to get her to stay in his hotel room with him.

Affleck, who is 43 years old, denied the accusations and said he would sue back. Instead, he settled out of court in 2010 for an amount that was not made public.

“The way some people have been thinking about me lately is so different from who I am as a person that it’s frustrating,” he said on the podcast. “It’s been hard not to be able to talk about it because I really wanted to support all of that, but I thought the best thing to do was just be quiet so I didn’t seem to be against something I really wanted to support.”

Affleck said that he tried hard not to talk about the accusations in public.

“Well, I guess I’ll just stay quiet most of the time,” he said. “I think most people don’t pay much attention to details, which is why your name comes up in a group of people all of a sudden.”

Affleck said that when he was making the movie, he did things wrong that led to the lawsuits.

“There was a lot of partying, because that’s what this sometimes real, sometimes fake movie was about,” he said. “We are keeping track of everything… It was meant to be confusing for everyone, so it was. And it’s my job to do that.

The crew was supposed to be a big part of the movie. I’m not sure how much they knew that they were in the movie… It was a big mess, and I wouldn’t do it again. If I tried to do this again, I would be much smarter, more sensible, and more aware that it was a place of work.

He said that after the accusations against him became public, he told his closest friends and family what he thought happened.

“It is and will continue to be a pretty ugly, hard, and painful time for this community, this industry, and culture as a whole,” he said. “So it was hard for me to sit by for years and feel like people I really liked and respected who didn’t know me were piling on a little bit.

It was also hard to have to explain to people I know and love who I was, even if they said, “Dude, are you kidding me? This doesn’t need to be explained. I recognise you.’ Still, you feel like you have to do that.”

Ben Affleck’s younger brother said that he can put his problems in perspective.

“I don’t think you’re done with something until you finally punch the big clock,” he said. “It’ll just keep going on. It makes you the way you are. Everyone goes through big problems and even tragedies that they think they can’t handle, but they do, and life goes on. The problems with this don’t come close to those. I’ve seen people who have been dealt much worse hands.”

Overall, Affleck said that he thinks the #MeToo movement is trying to solve a big problem.

“On the one hand, I think it’s a broad statement, and on the other, there’s been a lot of talk about whether or not we can really tell the difference between the worst cases and what are seen as the mildest ones.

I think that’s true to some extent, “Affleck said. “It’s not about saying, “Well, this isn’t so bad, but that’s awful.” It’s that it’s a big problem. It’s okay in our culture… Everything needs to be turned around, stopped, and not allowed. I think that kind of lightning bolt works.”
