Timothée Chalamet is making a comeback to the big screen, this time alongside Taylor Russell from the television show “Waves,” as the two characters become embroiled in an unconventional affair. The independent coming-of-age story “Bones and All,” which is based on Camille DeAngelis’s 2015 book of the same name, is about first loves Maren (Russell) and Lee (Chalamet), who travel a thousand miles while being plagued by their frightening pasts. Oh, and Maren’s propensity for cannibalism.

The film is “a liberating road trip of two young people growing into their own, searching for identity and chasing beauty in a treacherous society that cannot abide who they are,” the movie’s producers, according to Deadline, have said. The “heart of the movie is sympathetic and compassionate toward them,” the director, Luca Guadagnino, continues.

Will Bones & All be gory?

Luca told Fantastic Man that although the film deals with cannibalism, it isn’t particularly extreme in the same way as other films of the same kind, like Raw or Fresh. The romance that exists in us and in relationships, in general, is addressed in the director’s statement, “I like to think that Bones and All is an extraordinarily romantic movie.”

There is, of course, the literal part of it being a film about cannibal lovers, which is extreme in many ways, but I believe the more extreme aspect of the movie is the intensity of the feelings that these individuals go through—the impossibility of love. But he did say that he’s not sure if other people will find the movie extreme after watching it: “I’ve found that once you start screening the movie to people, you can tell.”
