Last June, Bloober Team, creator of The Medium, Layers of Fear, and Observer, announced a cooperation with Konami to create a new game, sparking rumors of a Silent Hill revival. Leaks earlier this year suggested a Silent Hill 2 remake.
Konami and Bloober Team revealed the remake in a 2.5-minute clip during a busy Silent-Hill broadcast. We witnessed several notable sequences from Silent Hill 2 with a new, enhanced look, including James Sunderland, who was created to seem like Alan Wake’s less-liked brother.

After Sony’s platform exclusivity restriction meant the Silent Hill remake would only be available on PS5 and PC for a year, Konami invited a few key members of the new development team to discuss the game. Akira Yamaoka will compose the remake’s soundtrack, promising a “fresh musical approach” to match Silent Hill 2’s updated graphics and gameplay. Bloober will hire concept artist and original game art director Masahiro Ito.
Many Bloober crew members appeared in the same video, emphasizing that the remake would be produced with “great respect” for Silent Hill 2. Developers will “leave [the] characteristic Silent Hill atmosphere intact” to “create the same strong impression today as it did 21 years ago.”

It also announced changes including an over-the-shoulder camera to meet gamers’ rising expectations. “Recreate everything that made the game a timeless classic but give it a fresh design that will entice players even deeper into the foggy alleys of Silent Hill,” the creators said.
Silent Hill 2 will be remade for PlayStation 5 and Steam at an unspecified date.
