Adriana Lima was born in Salvador, Bahia, Brazil, on June 12, 1981. Maria, her mother, was a social worker, and Nelson, her father, was a carpenter. Nelson left the family when Adriana was only 6 months old. Maria raised her on her own, and she now has the last name of her mother. Lima has said that she thought about becoming a nun or a doctor for children before she became a model. As a child, she entered and often won beauty pageants.
