The anime series is based on the manga series of the same name by Nico Tanigawa, which is also an adaptation. The first episode of this anime was broadcast on July 8, 2013, to a worldwide audience. On September 23rd of the same year, it came to an end after twelve episodes had aired. Following the completion of the series, the creators released an OVA episode in 2014.

Silver Link Studios was in charge of producing the first season of the anime television series. It was the first three volumes of the manga that were used in the anime’s first season. There have been 18 volumes published by the manga’s author so far; a 19th book is scheduled to be released in June of 2020. Thus, more than 100 volumes of WataMote Season 2 are available to the series’ creators. A sufficient amount of source material has been collected for the second season of the anime. A second or third season of it might easily be produced by Silver Link Studios.
