The Idol HBO Release Date Status, Cast Update & Latest News Update 2022

The Weeknd has released the first teaser trailer for his upcoming HBO Max series, The Idol. The Idol will be about a female pop singer who falls in love with a Los Angeles club owner and cult leader played by Lily-Rose Depp and Abel Tesfaye himself. The trailer says that the show is “the sleaziest love story in all of Hollywood.” It shows drug-fueled hookup scenes, intense dance rehearsals, and a lot of power moves.”

The Idol was made by the Weeknd, Euphoria’s director Sam Levinson, and The Weeknd’s partner in making music, Reza Fahim. There isn’t an official release date yet, but the teaser trailer says it’s “coming soon.”

“The Weeknd, one of the biggest pop stars in the world, told Rolling Stone in 2020, “I just want to be a filmmaker. I want to make great movies.” Once you’re on board with that mission, here’s everything we know (so far) about The Idol.

The Idol, which will be shown first on HBO Max, has not yet been given a release date. But since filming started in January and a trailer just came out, it’s possible that the show won’t come out until late 2022 or early 2023.

Who Is the Cast of The Idol?

The list of actors also looks pretty good. Troye Sivan, an Australian singer-songwriter, and Debby Ryan, who is known for her work on the Disney Channel, will both have recurring roles. Also, Jennie from the huge K-pop girl group BLACKPINK will show up, but it’s not clear yet if this is more than just a cameo.

Hari Nef, Rachel Sennott, Nico Hiraga, Anne Heche, and Tunde Adebimpe from TV on the Radio are also in the cast.

The Idol plot: What’s the series about?

The self-help guru and cult leader in the series, which is being billed as “the sleaziest love tale in all of Hollywood,” will have a romance with a rising pop star.

Abel Tesfaye, aka The Weeknd, Sam Levinson, Reza Fahim, and The Euphoria creator were all involved in the creation of the series.
