Who is Sim Wong Hoo?

Sim Wong Hoo was a millionaire entrepreneur and inventor from Singapore. He started the company and served as its CEO and chairman; the company makes accessories for computers and portable media players. The Sound Blaster sound card and the Creative ZEN line of media players and audio accessories are two examples of Creative’s well-known products. Sim Wong Hoo is a native Singaporean of Zhao’an Hokkien descent and a Bukit Panjang Government High graduate.

How did the Businessman Die?

According to Bloomberg, in a filing to the Singapore Exchange on Thursday, the company announced that Sim passed away on January 4 from natural causes. Interim CEO Song Siow Hui said, “This is a sad and surprising occurrence.” Song, who presided over the Creative Labs division, assured investors the company would carry on with the late founder’s vision and plan. More than 400 million PCs now have audio because of Creative’s Sound Blaster cards, which Sim created in 1981 and has led ever since.

Shares of Creative were initially traded on the Nasdaq Stock Market in 1992, making the company the pioneer in Singaporean stock market listings. By 2000, Sim had become the youngest self-made billionaire in Singapore’s history. After suing Apple in 2006 for patent infringements related to the iPod, Creative was awarded a $100 million settlement. However, it lagged far behind industry leaders like Apple. Before the turn of the millennium, Creative had a stranglehold on the PC audio market. However, the rise of PCs with built-in sound cards eventually eroded that advantage.
