The eldest of Bernice and real estate mogul Seymour’s four children, he’s also older than his brothers and sisters: Tommy, Douglas, and Wendy. Later, he attended Lehigh University, playing varsity lacrosse and serving as the student newspaper’s business manager.


Soon after receiving his diploma in 1965, he enrolled in a doctoral program at UCLA. Nonetheless, he stopped going to school and moved back to the Big Apple in 1969. Instead of joining his father at the Durst Organization, Durst decided to start his own business selling organic groceries in Vermont under the name All Good Things. Because of Durst’s bad behavior, however, his father appointed his other son, Douglas, to run the business instead.
