Pedro Pascal Proudly Supports Sister Javiera Balmaceda At Oscars 2023

Pedro Pascal is not only a talented actor but also a supportive brother! The Last of Us star attended the 2023 Oscars as a presenter and to support his sister, Javiera Balmaceda.

Pedro Pascal proudly showed his support for his sister Javiera Balmaceda at the 95th Academy Awards, where he attended as a presenter. Balmaceda, who is Amazon Studios’ head of local originals for Latin America, played a crucial role in the production of Argentina, 1985, which was nominated for Best International Feature. Although the film did not take home the award, the siblings were all smiles as they posed together on the red carpet ahead of the ceremony, which was hosted by Jimmy Kimmel.

Despite not receiving any Oscar nominations or awards himself, Pascal’s presence at the ceremony was a touching display of sibling support. He introduced the Best Animated Short and Best Documentary Short categories alongside Elizabeth Olsen, and took the opportunity to promote his sister’s film.

Balmaceda, who spoke to Variety in August 2021, said that the project was an exciting one, which took audiences on a journey through a pivotal point in Argentina’s history. She also praised the cast and crew, who she said were sure to bring audiences one of the most compelling and well-produced films.

Interestingly, the two siblings have different last names because Pascal changed his performing name to honor their late mother, Verónica. In an interview with PEOPLE in 2020, Pascal revealed that his mother had been incredibly supportive of his career and that he changed his name shortly after her death. “None of [my success] would be real if it weren’t for her,” he said.

Argentina, 1985 is now available for streaming on Prime Video. As for Pascal, fans can look forward to seeing him in upcoming projects such as The Last of Us, The Mandalorian, and the highly-anticipated film The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent.
