Tartakovsky’s first three “Hotel Transylvania” flicks are excellent. This cartoon reimagines Universal Monsters.

Mavis is married to Johnny in “Hotel Transylvania 2.” Dennis is also raised at the same hotel. Mavis is concerned about parenting a child without fangs at a monster hotel. While Mavis is in California with Johnny, Dracula and his friends watch Dennis and let him reveal his inherent wickedness.

The movie’s best part is that Dracula terrifies the youngsters. The vampire wonders if he’s passed on his childhood fears to his offspring.
Dracula (Adam Sandler in the previous three films, Brian Hull in this one) is overprotective of his daughter Mavis (Selena Gomez). It does everything it can to keep her away from the human world. However, when Mavis falls for Johnny (Andy Samberg’s voice), a human comedy ensues.
In the latest installment, titled Hotel Transylvania: Transformania, the roles of Johnny and Dracula are reversed. Dracula went from being an annoying monster with a touch of xenophobia to becoming a friendly, tolerant guy.

The Hotel Transylvania franchise has never tried to be anything other than kid-friendly, yet even its fourth installment fails to impress. The animation lacks the ingenuity that Genndy Tartakovsky brought to the table, the premise is straightforward but too predictable, and the gags are goofy but not hilarious.
It’s easy to understand why Adam Sandler wouldn’t come back for this, and rumour has it that Selena herself wasn’t too enthusiastic about it. Having seen the movie, I can’t say I blame them.
The film’s theatrical debut was delayed many times before Sony sold the rights to streaming service Amazon Prime Video.

Although the narrative takes place in various far-flung locations, including the Amazon, the animation never manages to wow. Genndy’s absence as director (he solely contributed as a writer and executive producer) is noticeable.
Those responsible for the voice acting sound bored, if not bored, themselves. Most of the supporting cast, including Selena Gomez, seems intent on just getting it over again. Even if he isn’t performing in peak form, Adam Samberg steals the show here. The film’s star is replaced by Brian Hull, who does a respectable job of it. His delivery, though, veers from being fresh to sounding like Adam Sandler.

There won’t be a fifth instalment
The Hotel Transylvania movies and TV shows have always looked like mediocre imitations of other, more original animation brands. This final section is like a parody of that old material; it’s excessive and easily avoided. I hope Genndy Tartakovsky takes the opportunity to make something people genuinely desire, like a reboot of Dexter’s Laboratory or a re-reboot of Samurai Jack, because Sony has already declared there won’t be a fifth instalment.
