Entertainment Movie News

The first trailer for the long-awaited sequel Hocus Pocus 2 has finally been released, and it will be in theatres just in time for Halloween.

The Sanderson Sisters are back to cause trouble in Salem, Massachusetts, almost 30 years after the first Hocus Pocus movie came out. The release date for Hocus Pocus 2 has been confirmed by Disney.

The first movie is a beloved cult classic, and while many legacy sequels feel like shameless cash-in on nostalgia, it’s hard not to get excited about a return to Salem. We can’t wait to see what the Sanderson Sisters have in store for us when they come back, so here’s what you need to know about Hocus Pocus 2.

At Disney’s presentation of “upfronts” in May 2022, it was confirmed that the sequel will be on Disney+ on September 30, 2022. The second movie was shot in Rhode Island from October 18, 2021, to late January 20, 2022.

Now, all we can do is wait for Hocus Pocus 2, but you can always watch the first movie again on Disney+ to fill that witch-shaped hole in your life. Unless something unexpected comes up, it looks like the sequel will be able to cast its spell on us later this year.

What will the story of Hocus Pocus 2 be about?

Along with the official announcement in May 2021, we learned the first plot details about what to expect from the sequel.

“Three young women accidentally bring the Sanderson Sisters back to modern-day Salem and must figure out how to stop the child-hungry witches from wreaking a new kind of havoc on the world,” it says.

This sounds a bit like the book sequel that came out in July 2018 and was about Max and Allison’s daughter Poppy, her best friend Travis, and a girl named Isabella who Poppy has a crush on.

Poppy sneaks into the Sanderson house during a blood moon to impress Isabella. By accident, she brings the sisters back to life. It’s not clear if this is what will happen in the next movie, so it might not be true.

Spoiler alert: The first movie ended with the magic book blinking its eye, showing that it is still alive and that the witches could come back.

Even though we don’t know much more about the sequel, the fact that the returning stars have been praising it is enough. Midler said in November 2020, “We looked at the script, and I think we all thought it was pretty good.”

Don’t worry, Hocus Pocus 2 will also have at least one musical number like the famous “I Put a Spell on You” scene from the first movie. The sisters sang Elton John’s “The Bitch is Back” in a clip that was shown at Disney’s upfronts presentation. We can’t wait to see it.
