Here’s everything you need to know about Sound Sultan, the Nigerian hip-hop legend who died of throat cancer


The 44-year-old Nigerian pop sensation Sound Sultan died of Throat Cancer on 11th July, the news was disclosed by Dr. Kayode Fasasi. He was diagnosed with Angioimmunoblastic T-Cell Lymphoma, long time back.  

Dr. Kayode Fasasi said, “It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our multitalented veteran singer, rapper, songwriter Olanrewaju Fasasi aka Sound Sultan.”

Sound Sultan was Singer-songwriter, rapper, comedian, actor, musician, record producer, executive producer, basketball club co-owner. He survived by his wife and three children, even his friends came to support him in his last stages of life. The singer not so long ago posted his news about the diagnosis of his cancer and also reacted to it with a very positive statement, “must not ignore the massive show of love” and also, he thanked everyone in the end. He went under Chemotherapy a few months ago.  

His family has not reacted by now and asked for complete privacy since they are still in shock of this great loss of theirs.  

Sound Sultan Early Life: 

Sound Sultan’s real name was Lanre Fasasi. He started to see his career in music in 1991 when he began to write music and mime at school parties.  

His elder brother supported him a lot to go and give a performing arts career a chance, he called his elder brother Baba Dee. His elder brother was the one who gave him early life experiences and teachings.  

Sound Sultan started by learning how to play guitar and also joined a band in 1999. He was perusing secondary school education at that time and during that he managed to win a considerable number of local prizes.  

His first music Jagbajantis was released in the year 2000, and it reached the top of all song charts very soon.  

The beginning of a grand career  

Right after the release of his song Jagbajantis, Kennis Music signed him for the upcoming four albums that they planned for him then.  

The singer and his elder brother Baba Dee started working in partnership, and they opened Naija Ninjas, an organization for record labels, production outfits, and clothing lines. 

Sound Sultan’s Family 

Sultan tied Knot with his girlfriend that he knew for a very long time, Chichi Morah, who is now known as Farida Fasasi.  

They have three children together and he also posted many pictured together.  

His Work and Its meaning  

He was known for his work because he used to create music on problems faced by mankind, like poverty and corruption.  

The Nigerian Singer was chosen and the brand ambassador by UN for peace and exemplary lifestyle and career in 2012.  

He released his rap single ‘Remember’ in 2015, and was nominated for, The Headies Award for Album of the Year in 2012.
