Harry Styles’ Gay Sex Comments & Points On Sexuality In Films Upset Fans

Flimsy at first, the mysterious haute couture shroud Harry Styles is beginning to wrap up and unravel his sexuality. He is famous for wearing skirts for occasional high fashion photo shoots while dating Wilde.

The singer’s fandom, consisting of a teenage girl and a gay man in her 40s and clinging to youth, could be fooled by such empty promises, but smarter, more sophisticated gay men can see through it. And by doing so he does himself no favors.

In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Styles revealed himself in more than one way when discussing his upcoming film My Policeman. His comments not only revealed a lack of awareness of current LGBTQ issues, but he also made bold claims about gay sex in the film that are clearly untrue.

In “My Policeman,” Stiles plays an undercover gay cop navigating two romances (one with a man and one with a woman) set in 1950s England. “Obviously, ‘Oh, you couldn’t be gay now. It is illegal,” Styles said. I think `This is a gay story about these guys being gay. It`s about love and about wasted time to me.”

Styles seems wholly unaware of the challenges facing LGBTQ people around the world today. It`s not unfathomable to think it was illegal for being gay when consensual sex between same-sex couples is still illegal in 70 countries, nearly half of which are Commonwealth jurisdictions.

The fact that in the United States, there are no laws against discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation or gender identity in 27 states. Of course, it isn`t Styles` fault that Hollywood is so obsessed with our oppression that every mainstream LGBTQ film has to be set at least fifty years ago.

This is what Harry has to say to the people who call him gay.

Much like the majority of Black films being about slavery and the civil rights era, keeping LGBTQ stories in the past ensures audiences don`t get to see images of happy, thriving LGBTQ people living their lives.

Don’t give anyone the impression that being gay doesn’t lead to abject misery or self-denial. But Styles apparently hasn’t seen many LGBTQ movies, so he probably doesn’t know that. “A lot of the gay sex in the movie is two guys taking it on, taking the tenderness out of him,” he said. “We live in a time when it was illegal to be gay. And I think people who wanted to show that [Michael] was kind and loving and sensitive people are watching it.”
