So far, one of the best-hidden gems of Netflix’s 2020 schedule will not be getting a second season. Giri/Haji has been canceled after one season because neither the BBC nor Netflix wanted to continue the show.
The ambitious series, which the BBC and Netflix made, took place in England and Japan. It was shown on the BBC in the UK, but outside of the UK, it was a Netflix Original. On January 10, 2020, Season 1 of Giri/Haji was added to Netflix in most places.
It was about a detective who was looking for his brother, who he thought had joined the Yakuza and was accused of murder. As we said above, the show was one of many that Netflix dropped without warning, so we put it on our list of the best-hidden gems that will be added in 2020.

Now, it is official that the show will only last for one season. In a statement to a British news outlet called RadioTimes, a BBC spokesperson said: “We are very proud of Giri/Haji and how well it did, but in order to make room for new dramas, it will not be coming back. We are very thankful to Joe Barton and everyone who worked hard on it.
Netflix also added to what the BBC had to say by saying: “Giri/Haji is a show with a lot of style and ambition. It crosses cultures and continents in a way that is rarely seen on TV, and we are so proud to have worked with creator Joe Barton and the incredibly talented team at Sister to make the series available to people all over the world.”

Joe Barton, who created the show, has been pretty open on social media about how sad he is that season 2 will not happen. He has also hinted that they had a “really cool idea” for a second season. One reason for the cancellation could be that it would take too long to make. After all, the shooting did not start until August 2018.
In the end, though, we will not know for sure why a show was canceled, although it is usually because of money or low viewership.

Why did not season 2 of Giri/Haji happen?
Giri/Haji follows detective Kenzo Mori (Takehiro Hira) as he travels from Tokyo to London to look for his brother Yuto (Ysuke Kubozuka), who is thought to be dead.
Once he gets to London, he meets Sarah Weitzmann, a Metropolitan Police detective played by Kelly Macdonald. Together, they look into whether Yuto killed the nephew of a Yakuza gang member.
At the time it came out, BBC Drama Controller Piers Wenger said that the show was “unlike anything we have ever seen before on British TV.” Critics praised the eight-part series, and Rotten Tomatoes had nothing but good things to say about it.

A BBC representative said, “We are incredibly proud of Giri/Haji and the recognition that it achieved. However, in order to create room for new dramas, it will not be returning. “We are very thankful to Joe Barton and everyone who worked hard on it.
With this in mind, it seems like the BBC wants to make dramas that are even more popular and have more potential in the future. A Netflix representative said that the show had a lot of goals, and many fans were sad to hear the news. Sister Pictures, which helped make the show, said that they had “so much planned” for season two’s characters.

Fans have taken to social media to talk about how much they love the show. One fan said, “Giri/Haji is a fantastic show. “Why did I not know about it before three days ago? This site should only have tweets from Giri and Haji.
“Where are all my fans of Kenzo? Where are my heads of Rodney? I do not think it is too much of a stretch to say that Giri/Haji is the only good TV show ever made. Sharpe said that the characters were “beautifully funny and complex” when he talked about his BAFTA win.
