Gentleman Jack Season 2: Release Date Status, Cast, Plot and All We Know So Far

Suranne Jones, who previously appeared in Vigil, will reprise her role as lesbian landowner Anne Lister in Gentleman Jack season 2.

A period drama based on Anne Shirley’s coded diaries, the first series of BBC1’s Gentleman Jack explored how Anne — dubbed Gentleman Jack — had numerous relationships, including a relationship with Ann Walker (Sophie Rundle).

Since then, it has amassed a large following, which has been eagerly anticipating the release of Gentleman Jack Season 2…

About Gentleman Jack season 2

Anne and Ann’s evolving relationship will be the focus of the season, according to creator Sally Wainwright in an interview with Digital Spy. The content of Anne’s diaries will continue to serve as inspiration for the plot, she added.

‘They move into Shibden together in season 2, and the story is around how they navigate their marriage in public, as well as how they cope with their detractors and the impact that has on their relationship,’ added the actress.

“There’s no end to the stories, the journals, and this enormous storehouse of information.”

If the series stays true to the couple’s real-life experience, we may anticipate them to spend more time traveling around the world.

We’d also like to see if Anne manages to get the best of the Rawson brothers, which was a plotline from season one.

Star On Instagram, Sophie Rundle expressed her delight at the show’s second season’s completion, writing: “Corrr it’s been a long time coming but after a year — an entire year — we have finally wrapped on Gentleman Jack s2! A great amount of love goes out to our absolutely fantastic cast and crew, who put up a Herculean effort to face pandemics, death, births, floods, and locust plagues in order to bring this beautiful love story back to our screens.

“And a special thank you to my wife, our team captain @suranne jones, who has guided us every step of the way. “And who knows how to sip cheap champagne in a trailer like a TROOPER?” says the author.

Gentleman Jack season 2 plot

Towards the end of the first eight-part series, Anne Lister and Ann Walker exchanged marriage vows. As a result, the new series will follow the couple as they settle into their new home in Shibden Hall together. Because the story takes place in 1830s Yorkshire, it’s unlikely that they will be able to live a quiet married life together, especially given the fact that their relationship continues to raise controversy.

Sally Wainwright, a writer, has promised that there will be plenty of “big, bold things” to tell about the couple in the future.

The BBC tease is as follows: “Yorkshire, the year 1834. All eyes are on Anne Lister and Ann Walker as they prepare to settle into their new home at Shibden Hall as husband and wife, intending to merge their estates and establish themselves as a power couple in the process. Locals are terrified of Anne Lister’s business spirit as much as they are of her unusual love life, and with Halifax on the verge of revolution, her refusal to maintain a low profile becomes controversial and perhaps hazardous for the city.”

Gentleman Jack season 2 Cast

A snapshot of Jones taking a selfie with her co-star Sophie Rundle, who plays Anne’s love interest, Ann Walker, was published by the broadcaster on Valentine’s Day (February 14) on Twitter.

This was followed by the message “Love thy selfie,” which confirmed that the new episodes would be available on HBO Max “this spring.”

Anne’s sister Marian (played by Gemma Whelan from Killing Eve) and Anne’s ex-lover Marianna Lawton (played by Lydia Leonard) are among the cast members who will return for season two. Joanna Scanlan, best known for her role on The Thick of It, is scheduled to join the cast as Isabella ‘Tib’ Norcliffe, one of Lister’s earlier companions.

Even though their participation has not yet been confirmed, it is expected that Gemma Jones (Aunt Anne Lister), Timothy West (Jeremy Lister), Katherine Kelly (Elizabeth Sutherland), Tom Lewis (Thomas Sowden), Amy James-Kelly (Suzannah Washington), and Peter Davison (William Priestley) will all return to the series.
