Death Note Season 2: Is It Officially Renewed? Everything You Need To Know!
The manga series “Death Note,” illustrated by Takeshi Obata and written by Tsugumi Ohba, was the inspiration for the film “Death Note.” It centers on the exploits of Light Yagami, a teenage genius who, one fateful day, comes across a mysterious notebook that changes his life forever. According to Light’s investigation, the notebook is actually called a “Death Note,” and it is a magical artifact that was dropped into his path by a god of death named Ryuk. A Death Note comes with a great deal of responsibility, as anyone whose name is written within the pages of the notebook will perish as a result of the note’s contents.
As a result of his decision to use the Death Note, Light decides to enter the world of serial murder in order to rid society of those he considers to be immoral. In the end, he seeks to rid the world of crime under the alias “Kira,” which is the Japanese katakana for the English word “killer,” a moniker that was given to him by the police (according to Death Note News). Light’s decisions have a variety of consequences, the most notable of which is the formation of the Kira Investigation Team, which is led by the mysterious detective L.
Hundreds of pieces of ancillary media have been produced in the wake of “Death Note,” including everything from a light novel to a musical to live-action television and film adaptations, including a Netflix adaptation that was met with mixed reviews. Even though the anime adaptation of the manga series only lasted a single season, it manages to capture the main thrust of the manga’s storyline in a concise and entertaining manner. Fans, on the other hand, are still clamouring for more. In fact, the manga “Death Note: The a-Kira Story,” published by Viz Media in early 2020, is set within the series’ universe and is titled “Death Note.”
Is it possible that a second season of the “Death Note” anime will be produced? In it, who would star, and what would be the storyline? Here’s what we know so far about the situation.
Death Note Season 2 Is It Renewed?
Renewal status is currently pending. We have been anticipating the release of the sequel to the original ‘Death Note’ anime for a very long time now. There have been numerous rumours that a sequel to ‘Death Note’ is already in development. Unfortunately, there has yet to be any official confirmation that a sequel to the original anime is in the works or that it will air.
Considering how popular the first anime was, you might be wondering why it took Madhouse so long to create a sequel for the series, given how popular the first anime was. One of the primary reasons for this is the scarcity of source material. The manga on which the series is based has 108 chapters, which are collected in 12 tanks on volumes (comic book volumes). The source material has already been completely exhausted by the anime adaptation.
Fans, on the other hand, have reason to be optimistic! In February 2020, a one-shot comic book titled ‘Death Note: Special One Shot’ was released, written by Ohba and illustrated by Obata. The standalone novel took place ten years after the events of Kira and introduced a completely new storey to the Death Note franchise. It has the potential to be a viable source of material for an anime sequel.
Death Note Season 2 Release Date
The existence of a second season of the ‘Death Note’ anime has not yet been confirmed, so there is no set release date at this time. So we expected that it will be released in 2023. We will continue to monitor the situation and will update this article as new information becomes available.
Death Note Season 2 Cast
As previously stated, any potential “Death Note” prequel or sequel would have to contend with the absence of Light (Mamoru Miyano/Brad Swaile) and (KappeiYamaguchi/Alessandro Juliani) as main characters (see below), and it’s likely that only a small number of characters and their original voice actors would be asked back for such a series.
The immortal Ryuk, who was originally voiced by Shidô Nakamura in the original Japanese language version of the anime and Brian Drummond in the English dub, would be the most likely returnee, as would be the other main characters (per IMDb). Near, who was voiced by Noriko Hidaka in the original version and Cathy Weseluck in the dubbed version, as well as Mello, who was voiced by Nozomu Sasaki in the original version and David Robert Moore in the English dub, is still alive and well in the franchise.
A sequel anime could feature a completely different cast of characters, or it could center on any of the characters who survived the first season. At least one prequel manga and one sequel manga already have done so — “Death Note: Some other Note – The Los Angeles BB Murder Cases” is mentioned by Mello, and “Death Note: The a-Kira Story” is heavily based on Ryuk and Near — and it is likely that more will follow.
Death Note Season 2 Plot
The conclusion of “Death Note” marks the death of the anime’s main protagonist, Light, who is shot by Matsuda (Ryô Naitô/Vincent Tong) after attempting to write names down on strips of paper from the Death Note he had hidden in his watch while trying to write names down. Light is writhing in agony on the floor, and Ryuk is writing Light’s name in the Death Note while she is unconscious. L. Light succumbs to cardiac arrest shortly after, while having visions of his nemesis, the deceased detective L. Light.
With both of the first season’s protagonists no longer alive, the show would either have to adapt one of several existing prequels or sequel mangas, or it would have to be a completely different story altogether. In addition to the novels “Death Note: The a-Kira Story” — which takes place 10 years after the events of the original “Death Note” — and “The Los Angeles BB Murder Cases,” there is also the one-shot “Chapter 109” (also known as “The C-Kira Story”) and the “L File No. 15” book.
“The a-Kira Story” would be the most narratively rich vein to mine if one were to do so.
During the course of the manga, the Death Note comes into the possession of a university student named Minoru Tanaka, who decides to sell the book to the highest bidder for a sum of money. In an attempt to prevent the sale of the Death Note, Ryuk attempts to bring the world to a standstill as American and Chinese authorities battle it out over the notebook.
