Beetlejuice 2 Release Date Status: Why Do They Have To Wait 125 Years In Beetlejuice?

Tim Burton’s beloved movie Beetlejuice has been out for 34 years, and there have been talks of a sequel pretty much ever since. Adam and Barbara Maitland, played by Alec Baldwin and Geena Davis, have just died. In the original movie, they try to get the Deetzes, played by Catherine O’Hara and Jeffrey Jones, to leave their house by scaring them. After their efforts fail, they hire Beetlejuice (Michael Keaton), who calls himself a “bio-exorcist.” Beetlejuice’s tricks put the Maitlands and Lydia Deetz in danger (Winona Ryder).

The movie led to several spinoffs, including an animated series that ran from 1989 to 1991, a few video games, and a well-received Broadway musical that opened in 2019 and will reopen in April 2022. Since it came out, Beetlejuice has had such a big effect on people that it’s hard to believe there hasn’t been a sequel yet.

Plans seem to be finally moving forward after 30 years of starting and stopping. Brad Pitt’s production company, Plan B Entertainment, has agreed to make our collection dreams come true. Read on to find out what we know about Beetlejuice 2 so far.

When Will The Second Beetlejuice Movie Come out?

Warner Bros. hasn’t given the official go-ahead yet, so we don’t know when the movie will come out. The Ankle says that there are plans to start filming this summer.

Who Will Write The Follow-Up To Beetlejuice?

Plan B Entertainment is helping to make the sequel, but don’t expect to hear anything about the movie soon. Shortly after Beetlejuice was a hit, Burton hired British screenwriter Jonathan Gems (Mars Attacks) to write a screenplay called Beetlejuice Goes Hawaiian. The Deetzes would be in Hawaii, where Charles’s real estate development company is building a resort on an old cemetery.

Hijinks would have no doubt ensued. Both Keaton and Ryder agreed to do this sequel as long as Burton was in charge, but Burton instead chose to direct Batman Returns. When he went back to Beetlejuice Goes Hawaiian, it was already the mid-1990s, and people were less excited about it.

Warner Bros. asked Seth Grahame-Smith to write and produce a Beetlejuice sequel in 2011. Grahame-Smith is best known for his parody novel Pride & Prejudice & Zombies. He also worked with Burton on the movie version of his book Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter. Grahame-Smith agreed, but only if Keaton played the same part again.

Over the next few years, the main people from the first movie kept saying that they wanted to work on a sequel. However, Warner Bros. put the project on hold in 2019, around the time that the Broadway musical opened. There was no clear reason given.

Beetlejuice 2 Expected Cast Details

There is a rumor that Ryder and Keaton will be back in the Beetlejuice sequel in the same roles. Ryder has always wanted to go back to Lydia Deetz. In 2013, he told The Daily Beast, “I love Lydia Deetz so much. She was so important to me. I’d love to know what she’s doing now, 27 years later.” Ryder says that Burton and Beetlejuice helped her career and that she is still known for it.

So far, only Ryder and Keaton, who were in the first Beetlejuice movie, have been talked about. Whether or not the other actors from the first movie will be in the sequel depends on how the story will go.

Why Do They Have To Wait 125 Years In Beetlejuice?

Juno, the Maitlands’ own caseworker, tells them they have to stay in the house for the next 125 years. If they want the Deetzes to leave, they have to scare them away. Even though the Maitlands can change into monsters, their attempts to scare the family don’t work.

Where Can I Watch Beetlejuice?

The 1988 classic can be rented or bought on Amazon Prime Video, AppleTV, Vudu, and Google Play, among other places.
