1899 Release Date, Cast, Plot, Trailer & Everything We Know So Far

In recent years, Netflix has released a variety of sci-fi dystopian series, including Dark and Stranger Things. These television shows investigate how the past, present, and future may all coexist and have an impact on one another at the same time. The creators of Dark will launch a new television series that will focus on the struggles of immigrants sailing from Europe to New York at the turn of the 20th century.

They had hopes of traveling to the new world, but their voyage takes a turn for the worse when they come across a second ship at sea that has been missing for months. Suddenly, their adventure becomes a nightmare.

An anticipated German epic period mystery horror television series called 1899 was created by Jantje Friese and Baran bo Odar. Both Friese and Odar have worked together on the sci-fi series “Dark” and the techno-thriller movie “Who Am I?” and they are currently producing 1899 under the auspices of Dark Ways.

The series’ preproduction officially began in November 2020, while the filming outside of Berlin, Germany, began in May 2021. The complete series’ filming, which also took place in London, United Kingdom, was finished in November 2021.

When Will The Movie 1899 Be Released?

The series was originally scheduled to debut in 2021, but delays prevented that from happening. In early 2022, it was announced that the series would instead air on Netflix in the fall or winter of 2022. In November 2022, 1899 is anticipated to appear on the platform. The creators of the film have not yet provided the official release date.

The first episode of the eight-episode series is titled “The Ship,” and there will be eight episodes altogether. This sweeping drama series will run 60 minutes for each of its installments. The characters from different parts of the world will communicate in their original tongues, making it a multilingual story.

What Is 1899 About?

Given its title, it should come as no surprise that the eight-part drama takes place in 1899, the same year as Dark, but it does so on a migrant steamship carrying a diverse group of European passengers from London to New YorK.

As stated in the synopsis: “The diverse group of European backgrounds among the passengers [is] bound together by their aspirations for the twenty-first century and their futures overseas. But when they come across another migrant ship drifting on the open sea, their trip takes an unexpected turn. Their journey to the promised land will become a terrifying nightmare because of what they will discover on board. “

The series’ creators, Jantje Friese and Baran bo Odar, stated: “The idea of a really European drama with an international cast was what really helped us relate to this concept. The issue of what connects and divides us is at its core. And how the latter can be sparked by dread.”
