Thor: Love and Thunder Release Date

On July 8, 2022, Thor: Love and Thunder will come out in theaters. It was supposed to come out on November 5, 2021, but the date was changed because of the pandemic.

Thor 4 was then set to come out in May 2022, but when Marvel Studios announced in October 2021 that it was putting all of its upcoming movies on hold, it was moved again. Its release date hasn’t been changed, so you can start getting excited for it to come out this summer.

The movie’s runtime has reportedly been leaked ahead of time, which is an interesting development. The UK movie theater chain Cineworld and the Australian movie ticket seller Event Cinemas disagree on how long the MCU movie will be. Cineworld says it will be 140 minutes long (two hours and twenty minutes), but Event Cinemas says it will only be 115 minutes long (one hour and fifty-five minutes).

It’s likely that one or both of these are just runtime fillers, but we’re hoping it’s the former so Waititi, Hemsworth, and the rest of the team have enough time to tell the next part of the Norse god’s MCU story. Once we know for sure how long Thor 4 is, we’ll make changes to this section.

What is Thor: Love and Thunder about?

In Thor 4, the God of Thunder will question his future as a warrior and say that his days as a superhero are over. But if a new enemy comes along that is much deadlier than most of the others he has faced over the years, he may have to use Stormbreaker again. And he might need a lot of help to stop this big bad.

Here is the official plot summary:

The film finds Thor (Chris Hemsworth) on a journey unlike anything he’s ever faced – a quest for inner peace. But his retirement is interrupted by a galactic killer known as Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale), who seeks the extinction of the gods. To combat the threat, Thor enlists the help of King Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), Korg (Taika Waititi) and ex-girlfriend Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), who – to Thor’s surprise – inexplicably wields his magical hammer, Mjolnir, as the Mighty Thor. Together, they embark upon a harrowing cosmic adventure to uncover the mystery of the God Butcher’s vengeance and stop him before it’s too late.

Thor: Love and Thunder cast

As expected, Chris Hemsworth is back as Thor. Odinson will be joined by some of his New Asgardian friends. Tessa Thompson will play Valkyrie again, and director Taika Waititi will put on his performance capture suit again to play the want tobe revolutionary Korg. Reddit says that Tristan, Hemsworth’s son, plays the boy version of the Norse god in the trailer and movie.

Not surprisingly, the Guardians of the Galaxy will also be in Thor: Love and Thunder. Avengers: Endgame ended with Thor hanging out with Marvel’s most popular group of jerks. So it looks like Star-Lord, Drax, Nebula, Mantis, Rocket Raccoon, Groot, and Kraglin will all be in it.

James Gunn, the director of Guardians, said that a few things were “adjusted” so that their roles in Thor 4 would fit into Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. This is likely because of character arcs and plots. Pratt, on the other hand, told Total Film that working with Hemsworth and Waititi was a joy, saying: “It went well. I loved making [Thor 4] every second of the way. I’m so glad they let us come along. It was cool to see Hemsworth bring this to his home country of Australia and film it there with all of his other countrymen. And with Taika Waititi, the director, who is just crazy. His style is so unique.”

Natalie Portman is also back as Dr. Jane Foster. According to Variety, the actress agreed to do so after just one meeting with Waititi, as long as he changed her character.

  • Chris Hemsworth as Thor Odinson
  • Tessa Thompson as King Valkyrie
  • Natalie Portman as Doctor Jane Foster/Mighty Thor
  • Christian Bale as Gorr the God Butcher
  • Taika Waititi as Korg
  • Chris Pratt as Peter Quill/Star-Lord
  • Dave Bautista as Drax
  • Karen Gillan as Nebula
  • Pom Klementieff as Mantis
  • Vin Diesel as Groot
  • Bradley Cooper as Rocket Raccoon
  • Russell Crowe as Zeus
  • Jeff Goldblum as The Grandmaster
  • Jaime Alexander as Sif
  • Sean Gunn as Kraglin
  • Matt Damon as actor Loki
  • Liam Hemsworth as actor Thor
  • Sam Neill as actor Odin
  • Melissa McCarthy as actor Hela

Portman appears in Thor and its sequel Thor: The Dark World, but not Thor: Ragnarok, which was set on Sakaar. Foster will wield Mjolnir and play the goddess of thunder in Thor: Love and Thunder, starring Porter.

Thor and Jane Foster have been recast for Thor: Love and Thunder. Thoughts? Both outfits appear comic books. Yes, please!

Jaimie Alexander returns as Asgardian warrior Sif. Her customary sidekicks, the Warriors Three, died in Ragnarok, although she appeared in Loki’s fourth episode.

Christian Bale, a former Batman, plays villain Gorr the God Butcher.

In the comics, Gorr gets divine powers after a series of mishaps and rids the cosmos of gods. Given Bale’s penchant for transformation, it’ll be interesting to see how this character appears in the film. New promo imagery (thanks again, Reddit) offers us a closer look at Bale’s Gorr.

Moon Knight head writer Jeremy Slater said Gorr would be mentioned in the show. Marvel released Moon Knight before Thor 4, therefore those ideas were scrapped.

Taika Waititi says Bale’s Gorr is “one of Marvel’s finest villains” Even if he’s prejudiced, that’s fantastic praise that makes us eager for the movie. Online cinema expert Erin Cummings says Bale’s Gorr is “extremely horrifying” (per The John Campea program), a huge remark given the MCU’s prior antagonists.

Russell Crowe joins DC and Marvel. According to EW, he’ll portray Zeus, bringing Greek and Norse mythology together in the MCU. Jeff Goldblum is set to return as The Grandmaster from Ragnarok, although he told TechRadar (in November 2021) he “couldn’t say anything about anything” Hope he returns for Thor 3!

Luke Hemsworth, Matt Damon, and Sam Neill will appear in a play recounting the mythology of Asgard. Melissa McCarthy is believed to play Hela in the play (ET Canada). McCarthy’s spouse Ben Falcone, singer Jenny Morris, and Sir Simon Beale (Mary Queen of Scots, Penny Dreadful) have unknown parts (per ET Canada and Comicbook.com).

Loki won’t cause trouble for Thor again. Loki perished in Avengers: Infinity War, but he’s back in Endgame and his TV program. Or the MCU. Tom Hiddleston claimed he won’t appear in a June 2021 interview. In a Total Film interview, he said he won’t be in the film.

As for characters that may (or may not) appear, MyTimeToShineHello claims Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel was scheduled to appear, while another insider in Greatphase says she will. Choose the winner.

Bast, a Wakanda deity who helped Bashenga become the first Black Panther, may reportedly return in Thor 4. Clickbait’s Akosia Sabet may play Bast.

Bast’s arrival is verified by a May 16 Marvel picture. Odd Studio, the prosthetics business engaged in Thor 4, confirmed that Bast appears in the film. The screenshot depicts Sabet’s Bast seated in front of Jane Foster and Valkyrie in what we assume is the Parliament of Pantheons (thanks to the Black Panther News Twitter fan account for the assist). Thor’s next quest may involve Black Panther 2. She’s connected to the Egyptian deity of the moon, Khonshu, who plays a key part in Moon Knight, thus the supposedly unrelated Marvel program may tie in after all.

Marvel leaker KC Walsh dismissed rumors that Knull may appear in Thor: Love and Thunder. Peter Dinklage’s MCU character, Eitri, helped Thor construct Stormbreaker in Avengers: Infinity War. Dinklage told Empire: “Another Thor movie, huh? Taika’s next film. I kept quiet. Nothing.” Stay tuned.

MCU insider Daniel Richtmann (thanks, Naço Marvel) claims Lena Headey will appear. We don’t know who she’ll portray but assume another Greek god. Hera, perhaps? Supposedly, you heard it here first.

As a result of the events of Avengers: Endgame, Chris Hemsworth reprises his role as Thor, who must shed the excess pounds he accumulated and rediscover his life’s purpose. Fans will recognize Korg, who tells tales of Thor’s travels in the trailer. This first look at Christian Bale as Gorr The God Butcher and Jane Foster as the Mighty Thor give us a taste of what to expect from the flick.

Gorr has a striking resemblance to Lord Voldemort from the Harry Potter films thanks to his skeleton white complexion and sinister voice. There are some comical interactions between Thor (played by Chris Evans) and Jane (played by Natalie Portman), some extravagant fantasy world-building, and an intense performance from Bale (played by Christian Bale).
