Starfield, Bethesda Game Studios’ long-awaited new IP, is planned to release in 2023 on Xbox One and PC, and it promises to be an epic sci-fi adventure.

The single-player RPG, Bethesda’s first new IP in 25 years, will transport players to the future and outer space, letting them participate in an epic about “hope and humanity” that studio chief Todd Howard describes as “like Skyrim in space.”

We’re starting to get a genuine sense of what the game will look like graphically and what Bethesda is attempting to achieve with it thanks to a growing collection of teaser trailers, behind-the-scenes featurettes, and concept art. Starfield will now be released in the first half of 2023, following a postponement announced in May 2022. While we won’t be playing Starfield for a while, we learned a lot more about it during the Xbox and Bethesda Games Showcase in June 2022, including our first glimpse at gameplay.

Despite the long wait, we boarded the Starfield hype train with a first-class ticket. We’ve scoured the galaxy for the newest Starfield news and rumors, and if you keep reading, you’ll learn all you need to know.

The release date has yet to be announced, although there are lots of rumors about it.

If you still believe you’ll be able to get your hands on Starfield before the end of the year, we’ve got some bad news: the film has been postponed until 2023.

For a while, that was all we knew, however, Todd Howard just announced in the Xbox and Bethesda showcase that Starfield will be released in “early 2023.”

No one knows for sure when the event will take place. According to Xbox, all of the games displayed during the Xbox and Bethesda presentation will be released within a year, so we should see Starfield by the end of May 2023.

Here’s our first look at Starfield gameplay in 2022

Bethesda has used all they’ve learned from their prior games, such as Skyrim and the contemporary Fallout games, to create Starfield, the company’s most ambitious game ever. On Starfield, the player builds a fully customized character with unique talents and attributes, then travels through an open galaxy of roughly 1000 worlds in a fully customizable starship.

The 15-minute video shown during the Xbox and Bethesda presentation combines curated apparent gameplay with an accompanying explanation. As the player arrives at the moon of Kreet, composer Inon Zur’s suite crescendos as the spaceship lands. Starfield’s aesthetics are spectacular right away if a little conservative.

Starfield would allow the player to visit any of the game’s 1000 planets in a virtual galaxy meant to thoroughly immerse the player, according to Todd Howard, Game Director at Bethesda and an equally revered and loathed symbol of the current gaming industry. The player may land their ship on any of the worlds and begin exploring, encountering strange species, space pirates, missions, characters, and other sci-fi cliches along the way.

In terms of plot, it appears like the player will be embarking on a galaxy-spanning quest to discover ancient treasures of unknown origins while fighting against hostile forces and frightening creatures.

Starfield, like Fallout 4, appears to be a shooter that can be played in both first and third person, however, playstyles will likely vary depending on which build the user chooses. The game’s visuals are spectacular, but its art style is fairly monochromatic when compared to No Man’s Sky, which has a similar sandbox environment to explore but considerably more colors to look at. Because of the parallels between the two games, “No Man’s Sky” and “Starfield” began to trend alongside each other on Twitter during the demo presentation.

Starfield, on the other hand, appears to be more focused on dungeon crawling, character-driven tales, weapon building, and realistic escapism immersion, whereas No Man’s Sky is centered on randomly generated space travel. The same gameplay philosophy has made Bethesda a gaming behemoth, with players taking time off from work to marathon the company’s enormous titles.

If Bethesda can deliver on the promises made in the gameplay trailer above, the company will undoubtedly have another smash hit on its hands. However, if the game ships without the features mentioned, it will be yet another disappointment for Bethesda, whose recent releases, such as Fallout 76, have caused many fans to abandon the developer.

STARFIELD Trailer

The Starfield teaser video, which you can see below, gave us our first glimpse at Bethesda’s next game in 2021. Although this in-engine trailer does not include any gameplay, it does give you a fair idea of the setting in which we’ll be playing.

It also includes some audio lines from a member of the Constellation encouraging you to search the galaxy for artifact relics in order to solve the age-old question, “What else is out there?”
