Sega said Friday that Sonic the Hedgehog 2 has made more money than any other movie based on a video game. With worldwide box office receipts of $331.64 million (and counting), Sonic the Hedgehog 2 has broken the record set by the first Sonic the Hedgehog, which made $319.71 million in 2020, just beating Resident Evil: The Final Chapter’s $314.1 million gross in 2017.
The second movie came out on April 8. Knuckles the Echidna (Idris Elba) and Miles “Tails” Prower (Colleen O’Shaughnessey), who have been in other Sonic games, joined the blue hedgehog this time. James Marsden and Jim Carrey both came back as the human characters Tom and Dr. Robotnik. Ben Schwartz played Sonic again.

Sega is already making more Sonic games and movies because the first two were so successful. We already know that there will be a third Sonic movie, and a Knuckles spin-off series starring Idris Elba is in the works for Paramount Plus.
Will Sonic 2 be on Netflix and HBO MAX?
No. Sonic the Hedgehog 2 isn’t on Netflix yet or HBO MAX, and it’s unlikely to be anytime soon, given its move to Paramount+. Sorry!
