For those of you who don’t know Canadian singer-songwriter, Shawn Mendes will make his big-screen acting debut in Ivan Reitman’s musical ‘Summer of Love.’ Ivan Reitman who is also a Canadian casted Mendes to star in the movie.
It is also Reitman’s first take at a musical as he has never directed a musical before. Thought news about the movie has been kept secret, as per Billboard – “the title is believed to reference the summer of 1967, when as many as 100,000 people, mostly young hippies, converged in San Francisco’s Haight-Ashbury neighbourhood in opposition to the Vietnam War. The summer was known for such musical performances in Northern California as The Who, Grateful Dead, The Animals, Jefferson Airplane, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin and The Byrds. It is described as a road-trip movie.
However, the leading man of the movie just dropped a snippet of what maybe could be the official soundtrack of the film! Mendes, posted on Instagram a reel, where he is seen driving in a car while gazing at the sun setting across the ocean and in the background we can hear Shawn’s voice singing “Summer of Love.”
Though the clip was only 15 seconds, the song sounded soothing! The captioned the reel with, “Summer of love,” as well.
However, ‘Summer of Love’ won’t be Mendes’ first film role as he previously voiced a character in The Weinstein Co.’s 2013 animated film Underdogs. But ‘Summer of love‘ does represents his first live-action role for the big screen.
