Sharon Stone said that she had nine miscarriages and that women are often “made to feel like they have to go through it alone and in secret with a sense of failure.”
The 64-year-old “Basic Instinct” star told her story Tuesday in a comment on an Instagram post by People magazine. In the post, “Dancing With the Stars” veteran Peta Murgatroyd talked about having a miscarriage while her husband, fellow dancer Maks Chmerkovskiy, was in Ukraine.
“We, as females don’t have a forum to discuss the profundity of this loss,” Stone begins. “I lost nine children by miscarriage.”
Stone has talked in the past about how an autoimmune disease and endometriosis led to her miscarriages.
Murgatroyd, who is 35 years old, told PEOPLE for the first time that she had recently lost a pregnancy. She remembered lying in a hospital bed for hours after her 5-year-old son Shai saw her being put into an ambulance. She called for help when she found herself on the floor of her son’s bedroom, unable to move at all. She had tested positive for coronavirus a few days earlier.
“I had no strength. I couldn’t open a dishwasher. I couldn’t open the fridge to feed Shai, to get him some toast,” the pro dancer said. “It got so bad that my breath was starting to be affected. It was really dramatic.”
The Emmy winner said in her memoir, “The Beauty of Living Twice,” coming out in March 2021, that losing multiple pregnancies was “devastating.”
Stone wrote, “When I lost my last child, I was in labor for 36 hours but didn’t give birth. Even on their day off, they stayed with me. I would have been alone without her.”
At the time, the former model talked about her “global sisterhood” and how happy she was to be able to “speak openly” about her fertility problems.
Stone and her then-husband Phil Bronstein adopted Roan, who is now 22, in 2000.
After they broke up in 2004, the “Casino” star adopted Laird, who is now 17, and Quinn, who is now 16, in 2005 and 2006.
