Raymond Loran Floyd (born September 4, 1942) is a retired American golfer who competed on both the PGA Tour and the Senior PGA Tour, winning multiple events along the way. Floyd has won four major championships, including the Masters and the PGA Senior Championship. In 1989, he became a member of the World Golf Hall of Fame.
Fort Bragg’s enlisted men’s golf course featured a long-serving golf pro in Floyd’s father L.B., who served the military for 21 years. At his adjacent driving range, Raymond and his younger sister Marlene, who would later go on to play professionally on the LPGA tour, perfected their swings. Floyd was able to play both right-handed and left-handed from a young age, and he used this ability to earn money from soldiers on the course and residents of adjacent towns.
In 1960, Floyd completed his high school education at Fayetteville High School, which is now known as Terry Sanford High School. A baseball and golf prodigy, he turned down a pitching job with the Cleveland Indians in favour of a semester at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
