Loki Season 2 Renewed At Disney+: Expected Release Date, Plot & Cast Revealed!

Marvel Studios is hard at work developing a slew of Marvel Cinematic Universe television shows, but few are as eagerly awaited as Loki season 2. The first solo adventure of the trickster god was a huge success for Marvel and Disney, so it should come as no surprise that the series will receive the second installment in the near future.

Furthermore, it appears that production on the Disney Plus show has begun to pick up speed significantly. Apart from the confirmation that two key characters will return in Loki season 2, we’ve also learned that two of Moon Knight’s directors will be joining the team to direct the Marvel Phase 4 production. There’s even a spin-off comic series based on the Alligator Loki character in the works. All of this, and more, has us giddy with anticipation.

That is not all that we know about the upcoming second season of the superhero series. In the section below, you will find even more information about Loki season 2. This includes the film’s potential release date, plot points that will need to be addressed, other likely cast members, and other pertinent information.

Eric Martin will be head writer for Loki Season 2

Michael Waldron, the writer of Doctor Strange 2, has said that the sequel, which comes out this week, has a connection to Loki’s second season.

Waldron was the head writer and executive producer for the first season of Loki on Disney+. He has talked to Digital Spy about the possibility that the two multiverse-focused projects could be linked.

The writer said that there will be some connection between the movie and the TV show, even though he didn’t say much.

He said that. “We’ve hired some really good directors.” [Justin] Benson and [Aaron] Moorhead, the two directors of the second season of Loki, are great. It’s also Eric Martin who will be the head writer for season 2.

“We worked pretty hard on Loki to make it as airtight as possible. But there were times when I was like, ‘Oh, shit, I wish I hadn’t have defined that so clearly. I don’t know why I had to be so specific in my time-travel television show about the rules of the multiverse’,” he said.

“So the creative team is fantastic. As Tom [Hiddleston, who plays Loki] once said, there’s plenty more mischief to come.”

Loki went into the multiverse, and Spider-Man: No Way Home did the same thing. It opened up even more possibilities.

A lot of the Marvel projects that are looking into the idea of multiversal stories could be confusing to fans, but Waldron’s involvement means that there will be a strong continuity between all of them because of that.

If Loki and “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” are linked in some way, Waldron hasn’t given away any more spoilers. He has also said that he’s fine with spoilers because he knows that they’re going to happen. “I think that people who want spoilers and want to be a part of it are going to join in on the discussion and the speculation about what is going to happen. People enjoy that, and that’s one way to enjoy this stuff.” by Digital Spy

Loki Season 2 Renewed At Disney+

Loki Season 2 has been officially renewed at Disney+ in 2023. According to Production Weekly, Loki Season 2 will begin production in June 2022, It’s unclear whether this is a new renewal or if Loki was mandated to have two seasons from the start of the series.

Loki Season 2 Expected Release Date

While season two is unquestionably on the way, there is still no word on when Loki will be released in its entirety, but some information we expected is possible to return in 2023.

Production Weekly, a trade publication, reported that the second season would begin filming in January 2022, but there doesn’t appear to have been any confirmation of this anywhere on social media or by Marvel itself.

“Season two is already underway,” Marvel Studios’ Kevin Feige told Collider in August 2021, adding that the show was “being developed as we speak.” However, that could mean anything from “The story is currently in the process of being written” to “Tom Hiddleston is finishing up his scenes already.”

As a result, it’s difficult to predict when we’ll be able to see the series again on television. To put things in perspective, the first season of Loki premiered in June 2021, and when you take into account things like the extensive special effects required in post-production, on top of the initial filming schedule and reshoots, Season 2 of Loki is scheduled to premiere on Disney+ in 2023.

Loki Season 2 Expected Cast

This article contains Loki season 1 spoiler, which can be found at the end of the article.

Even though Marvel hasn’t confirmed any of its returning cast members, with the exception of Hiddleston, a couple of the show’s supporting cast members have confirmed their participation:

  • Loki is played by Tom Hiddleston.
  • Agent Mobius is played by Owen Wilson.
  • Ravonna Renslayer is played by Gugu Mbatha-Raw.

Loki season 2 will see Hiddleston reprise his role as the god of mischief. Meanwhile, Mbatha-Raw and Wilson have confirmed that they will be returning to the show (via Good Morning America and Wired).

Wunmi Mosaku should also return as Hunter B-15, based on how season 1 ended, with Loki encountering an alternate reality version of the character (along with Mobius) at a different Time Variance Authority (TVA). Based on the fact that the duo does not recognize Loki, this is the most logical assumption we can make.

Even the possibility of a role reversal between Loki and the other two characters is a possibility in Loki season 2. Loki knows more about He Who Remains (Jonathan Majors) and his other variants, including Kang the Conqueror, at the conclusion of episode 6 than Mobius and Hunter B-15 do. Therefore, he appears to be better suited to play the role of ‘teacher’ in season 2, bringing Mobius and Hunter B-15 up to speed on this supervillain’s exploits.

With regard to Renslayer, we saw her leave the TVA in the season 1 finale in order to track down whoever is responsible for the lies she has been fed by Mobius and his team. We are aware that this individual is He Who Remains, but Renslayer is unaware of this fact. As a result, she may be in for a shock when she discovers that He Who Remains has already passed away.

A Renslayer variant could also serve as the leader of the TVA in an alternate reality, much like she did in the TVA in season one of the show. This would be the most straightforward method of bringing Mbatha-Raw back, but if it isn’t something Marvel decides to do, Loki and the gang may run into her somewhere in the Marvel multiverse instead.

Casey, played by Cordero, may play a role in the film. Casey, a minor character (but a fan favorite) in season 1, has been revealed to be “fine” by the season 1 finale, and Herron hopes that “there will be more Casey to be enjoyed” in season 2. (per THR).

As Herron hinted in a Variety interview, Casey is employed in a different role in this alternate version of the TVA, and observant TV viewers may have already picked up on this by watching the season 1 finale, which revealed what role he’ll be playing next season (and beyond).

Sylvie, played by Sophia Di Martino, is a character whose fate has been up in the air. However, we now know that Di Martino is likely to return, though this hasn’t been confirmed in its entirety. A number of interviews have been conducted with Di Martino regarding her return, including a Q&A in the November 2021 issue of Elle magazine, which suggests she will be a member of the show’s cast for the following season.

And what, exactly, would that entail? Sylvie’s backstory was not fully explored in season 1, according to Waldron, who previously told Polygon that there was not enough time in the first season. The show’s lead writer didn’t rule out the possibility that viewers will learn more in season 2 (“I guess we’ll see”), and he even hinted that we may be introduced to another Marvel Cinematic Universe version of Thor in the future.

And finally, we can expect Tara Strong to reprise her role as Miss Minutes, the sentient AI program, in season 2. Despite the fact that there has been no confirmation, if the TVA is a prominent location in Loki season 2, Miss Minutes should definitely be a part of it.

Loki Season 2 Plot

Surprisingly, there are few specifics about the plot. Loki season 2 will be “full of even more surprises,” Hiddleston said in an interview with Marvel.com, adding that “deep, deep discussions” had taken place about what to expect from the show in the second season. While speaking at the MCM London Comic-Con 2021 (as reported by RadioTimes.com), Hiddleston added: “Unfortunately, we can’t announce anything [about season two] – we’d love to tell you something [but] we are unable to do so.”

No matter how things turn out, Hiddleston appears eager to continue exploring Loki’s road to redemption, as reported by Variety: “I understand that the audience has a positive impression of Loki and wishes for him to overcome his internal and external difficulties. They want him to mend his relationship with his brother and step into the role of hero that he is capable of being.

“‘Actually, I have the ability to select my own path and to do the right thing,’ he understands. “Either that

or I choose not to repeat the same old techniques that I have been repeating in a cycle of trust and betrayal over and over again.” To keep all of the features that distinguish Loki as Loki while also allowing him to play slightly different music within himself is a thrilling experience.”

Hiddleston, in a separate interview with Variety, went on to indicate that he may not be playing the trickster deity indefinitely. In a statement, Hiddleston described himself as a “temporary torchbearer.” “That’s something I’ve always believed. It’s a fantastic role. That archetype is the trickster deity, the agent of chaos, to name a couple of things. For the time being, I’m merely here to provide an interpretation. Loki has been around for ages and will continue to be around for decades to come, and I’m merely walking into his shadow for the time being.”

For the time being, what can we predict about the upcoming episode of the show? One of the first narrative points of season 2 should deal with the ramifications of Loki’s appearance in a different TVA than expected. According to Waldron, who spoke to Marvel.com, there were “various variations” of the season 1 finale, but this one felt like the best match for the show at the time.

As a result, Loki finds himself in a TVA that he recognizes, surrounded by people who he recognizes, but none of them are aware that he is there.

Season 2’s premiere episodes, in our opinion, have the potential to go one of two ways. After Loki is probed by Mobius about who he is, Loki will divulge all about Kang’s (Jonathan Majors) true identity, and they will band together to stop him in the first episode of Loki and Mobius. That would allow Mobius and Loki to rekindle their buddy cop friendship from the first season’s early episodes – something that fans had hoped to see more of before the show took a different turn with the introduction of Sylvie.

Alternatively, Loki could opt to take a page from Sylvie’s book and follow her example. Recognizing that He Who Remains’ variations (including Kang) is a threat to the MCU, he may decide to demolish the TVA in order to attract Kang’s attention, then attempt to take Kang down himself, thereby becoming a fully-fledged hero.

When you take Waldron’s words into consideration, the idea of a “hero” becomes more credible. When asked about Loki, Waldron stated in the same Polygon piece we referred to earlier: “I think that you’re going to see a Loki that looks at himself in a different way certainly than that at the top of this [season 1],” hinting that the god of mischief will continue on his heroic road.

It’s possible that we’ll learn more about the TVA’s inner workings as well. According to Hiddleston, who spoke with Marvel.com, the TVA’s “moral intricacy” is a fascinating subject. It was only briefly mentioned throughout season 1 so that we could have a better understanding of how it operates, its principles, and the moral compass of its employees.

What about He Who Remains, will he make a reappearance? He was slain by Sylvie in the season 1 finale, so no – though one of his varieties may show up in the second season. It is yet to be determined if that variation will be Kang or not. As Loki looked at a statue of what appeared to be Kang at the TVA at the end of season 1, it’s feasible that Majors may make an appearance in the second season.

If he does, and if Loki season 2 is published in early 2023, it will be prior to Kang’s next appearance in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, which will take place in the same year. The implications of Loki season 1’s finale for other Marvel projects are discussed in further depth below, but when asked when his character would appear next in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Majors refused to divulge much information about his character.

Kang is a character who appears in Marvel comics, and Renslayer has a tight relationship with the time-traveling evil genius. However, in an interview with Digital Spy, Mbatha-Raw stated that she was unsure of the direction Renslayer’s character arc will take, stating: “To be completely honest, I have no idea where this is heading. When it comes to dealing with time, as Renslayer does, I believe there is a tremendous amount of potential, you know?”

Herron also indicated a desire in seeing the backstories of the show’s supporting characters, such as Hunter B-15, fleshed out further in the future.

“I was like, we shouldn’t show her memories [as part of episode 4], ” Herron added in the same Variety interview about Casey’s new job on TVA: “I was like, we shouldn’t see her memories.” Someone who believed they had power suddenly finds that they don’t actually have any power. It felt so good to be able to offer her some control in that situation at the very least. The memories are kept strictly confidential. They belong to her. A fan like me is also asking herself, “Oh my God, who is she?!'”

Meanwhile, Di Martino is apprehensive of what lies in store for Sylvie, as she tells Elle magazine: “Season 2 is something I’m not familiar with. I’m not sure how far it will be distanced from what happened at the end of season 1 when it comes to this. I’m not sure if she’ll have changed her mind by the time we see her again in the future. I have no idea where she will be or what state of mind she will be in. I assume she will remain fundamentally the same character, although the multiverse makes even [that] a little difficult to predict.”
