Hocus Pocus 2 Release Date Confirmed – Everything We Know So Far

Entertainment

In the first Hocus Pocus movie, we learned that in Salem, Massachusetts, three hundred years ago, witches were killed and a young boy who tried to save them was transformed into an eternal black cat. Now, it’s 1993, and the witches have returned by accident. As they only have till daybreak to gain immortality, they’ve decided to take out their wrath on trick-or-treaters. Only a teenager, his younger sister, and his girlfriend, as well as a three hundred year cat, can save the day this time.

In Hocus Pocus 2, the Sanderson Sisters return to Salem to wreak havoc once more.
This year, Disney+ subscribers can look forward to the long-anticipated sequel, which premieres with a new look and a (very) brief sneak peek.

Jennifer D’Angelo wrote the script and Adam Shankman was poised to film the sequel, which will include Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy reprising their roles from the original.

Disenchanted, another Disney sequel planned for release this year, compelled Shankman to resign down from his director’s chair. As the director, Anne Fletcher took over for Shankman, who remained on board as executive producer.

The movie has been filming since October 2021, therefore if there are no delays, the sequel will be released in 2022 as anticipated by Disney.

In anticipation of the Sanderson sisters’ return in Hocus Pocus 2, we’ve compiled all the details you need to know.

Hocus Pocus 2 Plot

After the official announcement in May 2021, we learned what to expect from the sequel’s storyline.

They must figure out how to stop a new form of evil being wreaked by the child-hungry Sanderson Sisters, who have been unintentionally brought back to modern-day Salem.
Poppy, her best buddy Travis, and Isabella, the girl Poppy has a crush on, were the focus of a novel sequel released in July 2018 titled Poppy and Isabella.

Poppy goes into the Sanderson mansion during a blood moon in order to impress Isabella and accidentally revives the sisters. Whether this will actually happen in the sequel movie is still up in the air, therefore it may or may not count as canon.

The original film ended with the magic book blinking its eye, indicating that it is still alive and that the witches could return… Ooo0ooo000ooOOOoo.

As long as we don’t know much more about the sequel, it’s reassuring to know that the returning actors have been praising it to the skies. In November 2020, Midler commented, “We looked at [the script] and I think all of us agreed that it was very excellent.”

Hocus Pocus 2 Cast

Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy, who play Winifred, Sarah, and Mary Sanderson, all guaranteed their return for the sequel in October 2020.

In May 2021, we learned that the witchy three would be returning to Hocus Pocus, but it wouldn’t have been a Hocus Pocus film without them.

We don’t yet know if any of the original cast members, such as Omri Katz as Max Dennison, Thora Birch as Dani Dennison, and Vinessa Shaw as Allison will be returning.

So far, Shaw has not heard anything regarding the sequel as of October 2021, but she says she’d “want to know more about it.” Since filming began, she’s either not in the movie or

she’s just being very secretive about her involvement.

Sam Richardson, the star of Veep, has been cast in the sequel, although we don’t know who he’ll be playing yet. He’s been making fun of the fact that he’s a big fan of Hocus Pocus, too.

“When I’m on set with the females, I feel like I’ve stepped outside of my comfort zone. This is it!’, I exclaim in my head “he informed ET. My face is a big grin as I watch the Sanderson sisters work their magic.

On Halloween, Disney announced the addition of Veep co-star Tony Hale, Ted Lasso, and Game of Thrones star Hannah Waddingham to the cast of the sequel, all in unknown roles. However, the roles of Juju Brener, Froy Gutierrez, Taylor Henderson, and Nina Kitchen have yet to be revealed.

According to set images, Hale appears to be playing Salem mayor Jefry Traske, but Disney has not confirmed this.

Billy Butcherson, Whitney Peak, Lilia Buckingham, and Belisa Escobedo will reprise their roles as Becca, Cassie, and Izzy correspondingly in the upcoming season of The Sanderson Sisters.

While Peak and Escobedo were filming, Buckingham uploaded an Instagram snapshot of the three of them together. As she put it in a blog post: “The last four months have been the most insane and incredible of my life.”

“I’m still in awe of the opportunity I had to spend time with and learn from everyone here. Thank you, Whit and Bel, for making me feel like a part of your family. You two have taught me more than you’ll ever know. Witches, I’ll see you shortly. It’s going to be a wild ride.”

Hocus Pocus 2 Release Date

After a tweet from actress Bette Midler, we can confirm that Hocus Poco 2 will premiere on Disney+ in Autumn of 2022 despite the lack of a release date “We are the Sistaaahs! Is it really so long ago? But now we’re back! #HocusPocus2 premieres in 2022.” That would imply an October 2022 release date around the time of Halloween, although no official word has been given on that. We do know, however, that on October 18, 2021, filming on the sequel began in Rhode Island. It is expected that the sequel would be completed by the end of January in 2022. For the time being, you may satisfy your need for all things witchy by viewing the original film on Disney+.

Hocus Pocus 2, the long-awaited sequel to Kenny Ortega’s 1993 Disney hit, will air on Disney+ on Halloween, according to producer Adam Shankman, who announced the news on Instagram on Friday.

“SISTAAAAAHHHHSSS! There you have it! #hocuspocus2 @bettemidler @sarahjessicaparker @kathynajimy… and the WHOOOOOOOLLLLLLLL cast and crew!!!” Shankman tweeted following the film’s completion. “#halloween #2022 on @disneyplus,” the tweet reads. The sequel to the 1993 Halloween cult film Hocus Pocus, starring Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy, has been released on Disney+, with a first-look photograph.
