Gaynor Hopkins, who later changed her name to Bonnie Tyler, was born on June 8, 1951, in Skewen, Neath, Wales, to Elsie and Glyndwr. She and her two brothers and three sisters grew up in a Protestant family that was very religious. Tyler sang the hymn “All Things Bright and Beautiful” for the first time in public in a chapel.

She got a job in a grocery store even though she didn’t have any formal qualifications from school. Tyler entered a local talent contest in 1969. When she came in second, she decided to become a singer. She then joined Bobby Wayne and the Dixies as a backup singer, and then she formed her own soul band called Imagination.

Roger Bell, a talent scout, heard Tyler singing with her band in 1975. He then asked her to record a demo track in London. RCA Records called her after a few months and offered her a recording contract. Tyler’s first single, “My! My! Honeycomb,” came out in 1976. It was managed, produced, and written by Ronnie Scott and Steve Wolfe. In the end, the song didn’t make the charts. Tyler’s second single,

“Lost in France,” did better than her first. By the end of 1976, it was in the top ten. “More Than a Lover,” her next single, reached number 27 in the UK.

In the late 1970s, Tyler made one of her albums there, and she and her husband now spend most of the year there. In 2005, Tyler was filmed in the Algarve for the Polish TV show Zacisze gwiazd, which visits the homes of actors and musicians.

Tyler and Sullivan have put their money into real estate.
