This Is Us Season 6 Recap of Last week Episodes

In This Is Us Season 6 Episode 11, we were treated to one of the most terrifying sequences in the show’s history, as well as an emotional outburst between Kate and Toby that was on par with the one between Kevin and Randall in This Is Us Season 4 Episode 18.

This was one of those situations where no one was to blame and everyone was to blame at the same time.

Kate reminded Toby several times to double-check that the gate was closed before leaving Jack in his room, but who could blame Toby for overlooking it in the midst of such a tumultuous situation?

There was still a massive leak, Kate has been shouting at him to hurry up, and Toby’s adrenaline was starting to run out of steam. As a matter of course, he would rush to close the gate and fail to do so properly.

As an example, Kate was impatient to show the plumber the leak and didn’t bother to double-check that the door was closed, let alone that it was locked.

If only Kate and Toby had grown closer instead of growing further apart as a result of the ordeal of losing Jack, the outcome of the story might have turned out differently.

Given the fact that they could have lost their son for the rest of their lives, it’s understandable that two terrified parents would lash out at one another. Jack’s escape from the house, on the other hand, added yet another stressor to an already frayed marriage.

Much like that leak, things have been steadily getting worse between these two while no one has done anything about it, and as a result, their relationship is a huge mess that cannot be salvaged at this point.

Almost as heartbreaking as Kate discovering that Jack had run away to the park because it was a place where his parents appeared to be happy is Kate realizing that Jack had run away to the park.

Toby and Kate exchanged a slew of hurtful words that needed to be communicated between themselves.

For the record, Kate was correct in assuming that Toby had been uncomfortable with Jack’s blindness from the start.

”Please accept my apologies for the situation back there. ‘Be light,’ I tell myself every time before entering a room with Kate. ‘Have fun with it.’ And then I lose track of who I am”.

Because of Kate’s worry over Toby’s weight loss, while she hadn’t, their marriage was plagued by additional issues. However, they could never agree on anything when it came to Jack, and as a result, a chasm sprang up between them.

Even before Jack’s condition, Toby seemed to believe that Kevin and Randall were part of a clique, as evidenced by his reaction to their involvement in the dispute. Meanwhile, Kate feels that Toby is ignoring her and their family because of Jack’s disability.

That’s why they stopped talking to one other. As long as they don’t get professional help, they’ll probably keep going around and around in circles until they decide to call it quits.

Toby didn’t point out the greatest irony of all: Rebecca rescuing Jack from certain death.

Because of Rebecca’s deteriorating mental state, Kate refused to let her babysit her children. It wasn’t long before Rebecca recognized that if Jack had changed into his boots, he was headed to the park and she was the one to discover him.

Even though Toby and Kate had agreed that Rebecca could not securely watch the kids, Toby might have told Rebecca to watch Jack while he fixed the mattress, which would have prevented Jack from fleeing the house had Toby and Kate not agreed that Rebecca was not capable.

Johnny Kincaid, who plays Jack, deserves a lot of credit for his performance. From the moment he entered the room to the moment he left, he made Jack’s interactions with Rebecca, his friends, and the world around him feel authentic.

The acting on This Is Us is always excellent, but the performance by a little child is particularly amazing.

When Jack was walking to the park, it was a little unnerving to see him cross the street all by himself. That doesn’t mean that Kate didn’t teach him to look out for automobiles, but he’s just 2 years old. He may have had a difficult time making a decision. It’s a relief he made it through without incident.

In the end, Miguel had very little contact with anyone else in this story.

In spite of the fact that it was meant to be his anniversary, Jack only appeared for a brief moment.

I would have liked him to point out that Rebecca was perfectly competent of minding Jack or to remind Toby that he, too, feels like an outsider in this great family.

In addition, he should have been there for Rebecca during this difficult time. Miguel is the one she’d turn to if she had questions or concerns regarding Jack’s disappearance or the apparent demise of Toby and Kate’s marriage.

I don’t know if that’s still in the works.

The Kate/Toby drama eclipsed some developments in the Madison/Kevin saga.

Randall: Mr. Kevin, at the age of 41, you make hasty romantic judgments that have consequences that last for years or decades. We are going to continue driving and will not send any self-destructive texts to our friends and family.

Kevin: I understand why your children are hostile toward you.

Kevin’s hatred of Elijah is growing, especially now that Elijah has expressed an interest in proposing. He puts on a brave face for Madison, telling her that he is delighted for her, but it is clear that he is not.

I’m still curious as to whether Madison and Kevin will end up together in the end. Will Kevin take a quiet exit and allow Elijah to have her as his own?

I also wondered if Jack and Rebecca’s wedding anniversary happened to fall on the same day as Rebecca and Miguel’s wedding anniversary.

The prior plotline appeared to be primarily intended to indicate that the Big Three learned early on to look out for one another and that Kevin and Randall are still just as protective of Kate as they were before and are still protective of Kate today. Intriguingly, Rebecca appeared to be thinking about it as the anniversary of her marriage to Miguel approached.
