One of the biggest surprises of the summer 2020 anime season was the romantic comedy “Rent-a-Girlfriend,” based on Reiji Miyajima’s Weekly Shonen Magazine manga. In spite of the manga’s success in China, the anime has elevated it to new heights. As a matter of fact, Miyajima himself tweeted that the series had rated fourth among Netflix Japan’s most popular shows.
A dating app called “Rent-a-Girlfriend” allows 20-year-old Kazuya Kinoshita to hire a girlfriend when his last one, Mami Nanami, dumps him. He leases the stunning Chizuru Mizuhara, but after thinking on how fake the encounter was, he gives her a bad rating. When Kazuya takes Chizuru to visit his grandmother in the hospital, the situation changes dramatically. Chizuru and Kazuya also realise that they live next door to one other.
People began to speculate about the future of the show as Season 1 came to an end. Fans were urged to pre-order the Blu-ray to help the show’s producer, Taiki Kakizaki, generate enough interest for a second season.

Rent-a-Girlfriend Season 2 release date?
It definitely didn’t take long for “Rent-a-Girlfriend” Season 2 to be revealed. Crunchyroll, which broadcasts the anime, reported that a second season was announced just as the first was winding up in 2020. However, a release date wasn’t locked upon at the moment. Thankfully, that timeframe has already been narrowed down, as Crunchyroll announced that Season 2 of “Rent-a-Girlfriend” will have a July 2022 release, but the particular day is uncertain.
Fans could have been initially anticipating for a 2021 release, but the COVID-19 pandemic might have likely prevented the series from releasing another season the year following Season 1. As Nikkei Asia observed, Japanese animation companies have been considerably interrupted owing to the epidemic, so a 2022 release makes logical.
Season 1 of “Rent-a-Girlfriend” launched in Japan in July, and then in the U.S. in late August, so Season 2 may follow a similar course in 2022 with the staggered release dates dependent on the nation — or they might premiere concurrently.

Who is in the cast for Rent-a-Girlfriend Season 2?
A formal announcement regarding the cast of “Rent-a-Girfriend” Season 2 has not yet been made. Nonetheless, it’s a fair bet that a large portion of the Season 1 cast will be back for Season 2. After all, to coincide with the formal announcement of the show’s second season, a special short film featuring a large portion of the primary anime voice cast was released. The cast of the anime comprised Sora Amamiya as Chizuru Mizuhara, Aoi Yki as Mami Nanami, Nao Toyama as Ruka Sarashina, Rie Takahashi as Sumi Sakurasawa, Shun Horie as Kazuya Kinoshita, and Yukari Nozawa as Kazuya’s grandmother Nagomi Kinoshita, according to Anime News Network.
Similarly, the production staff for Season 2 appears to be mostly unchanged, with TMS Entertainment acting as the studio behind “Rent-a-Girlfriend” and Kazuomi Koga serving as the animation director for the second season. According to Crunchyroll, Kanna Hirayama will surely be returning as an anime character designer, as they were responsible for the graphics for the teaser video.

What is the plot of Rent-a-Girlfriend season two?
Season 2 of “Rent-a-Girlfriend” has not yet been given a formal storyline outline, although it is expected to be released soon. The first season, on the other hand, didn’t stray too far from its manga roots, closely following the first six volumes of the manga. And, given that the manga presently has close to 190 chapters and 19 volumes, with no word on when it will conclude, there is a lot of material from which the next season may draw inspiration.
Season 1 came to a close with a number of noteworthy events taking place in the final episode. Mami really rented Chizuru and then questioned her about Kazuya, showing that she was well aware of the true nature of her and Kazuya’s relationship and that she was aware of it. Chizuru, on the other hand, refuted this, claiming that Kazuya was in fact her lover. She then inquired of Mami as to whether she had ever considered Kazuya to be the genuine love of her life, which did not elicit a very enthusiastic response. In a later meeting with Chizuru, Kazuya kind of admits to her that he wants to have her as a girlfriend, but then backtracks by explaining that he intended to have her as a rental girlfriend.
Season 2 will very certainly continue to examine the relationships between Kazuya, Chizuru, and Mami. In addition, although the first season continued to tease these characters’ genuine sentiments, the second season is anticipated to provide more possibilities for their true romantic feelings to come through
