While Chloé Zhao’s Marvel Studios directorial debut, Eternals, had a relatively modest box office performance and received a polarising response from fans, the film planted the seeds for galactic consequences on a scale that had previously been unimaginable. Towards the end of the film, Sersi (Gemma Chan) and her colleagues defy the Celestial gods by purposefully preventing the Emergence, an event that would have destroyed Earth and killed everyone on it. Oh, and Harry Styles made his acting debut as Eros.
Fans have not expressed a desire for a sequel to Eternals through the hashtags #MakeTASM3 or #ReleaseTheSnyderCut, but all narrative signs point to one being on the way. Even if the MCU’s immortals aren’t as popular at the box office as the Spider-Mans and Captain America of the world, Marvel Studios has made enough billion-dollar films to be able to put some storylines ahead of money.
Despite this, the whereabouts of an Eternals 2 remain a mystery. Despite the fact that star Angelina Jolie has spoken definitively about “the sequel” in previous interviews, Zhao has stated that a sequel is very much a “we’ll see” situation at the moment.
when can fans expect a potential Eternals 2 to be released, given the lack of public pressure for a sequel?
Eternals 2 Release Date Confirmed For November 2024
Following consideration of the larger picture possibilities as well as the effort to maintain Marvel’s balance of grounded and cosmic narratives, Eternals 2 appears to be on track to release in late 2024 if it is approved.
In the meantime, director Chloe Zhao is sinking her teeth into a Dracula project that will likely keep her busy for the rest of the year. The fact that she will have until 2023 to develop and film Eternals 2 means that the currently untitled Marvel Studios release date of November 8, 2024, will almost certainly be the setting for the sequel.
Eternals is now available to watch on Disney+.

What should be the Eternals 2 cast
If the sequel is confirmed, we can expect the majority of the cast to return, but the first film did not come without its share of casualties. Salma Hayek’s Ajak was killed by Deviants (with the assistance of Ikaris), and the lead Deviant Kro (voiced by Bill Skarsgrd) was responsible for the death of Don Lee’s Gilgamesh.
Upon realising his mistake at the conclusion of the film (lol, yeah, that’s right), Richard Madden’s Ikaris took a flight into the sun, seemingly to his death. However, given their 7,000-year history, none of the deaths rule out the possibility of a return in flashbacks.
Deaths have been concluded, but Lia McHugh’s Sprite has been transformed into a human by Sersi, raising the possibility of her return. If Sprite does make a comeback, it’s possible that the role will be recast away from McHugh.
While we’re talking about credits scenes, the sequel will have an extra jolt of star power thanks to Harry Styles, who made his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut as Eros, aka Starfox, aka the brother of Thanos, during the mid-credits scene.
He’ll be accompanied by Pip the Troll, who was voiced by Patton Oswalt in the first film and is expected to return in this sequel.
In addition to Sersi and Kingo, we can expect to see the return of Brian Tyree Henry’s Phastos and Lauren Ridloff’s Makkari, as well as Barry Keoghan’s Druig and Angelina Jolie’s Thena in the upcoming sequel.
Kit Harington is also expected to return in the role of Dane Whitman, possibly in the role of the Black Knight, as hinted at in the film’s post-credits scene (more on that in a bit).
Eternals 2 plot: Continue of Part 1
While the first film drew heavily from Jack Kirby’s comics, it largely told its own storey, making it difficult to predict what will happen in the sequel based on what happened in the first film. Fortunately, we can just concentrate on the cliffhanger ending from the first film.
After defying their leader (and creator) Arishem and preventing Tiamut from destroying Earth, the Eternals disband and presume that the war is over for the time being. Their assumptions are incorrect as Arishem abducts Sersi, Kingo, and Phastos from the planet Earth.
Arishem informs them that he intends to examine their memories in order to determine whether humanity is worthy of survival, much like he does in the comics, where he is a Celestial who determines whether a planet’s civilisation is worthy of survival or extinction.
As they travel on board the Eternals’ ship, the Domo, Makkari, Druig, and Thena seem to avoid Arishem for some reason. They’re on their way to tell the rest of the Eternals what they’ve discovered about their true nature.
At one point during the film’s middle credits, they express concern about the disappearance of Sersi, Kingo, and Phastos and speculate that Arishem has something to do with it. Then there’s Eros, who shows up on the Domo with promises that he can assist them in locating their missing friends.
While Eros and the Eternals may appear in other Marvel Cinematic Universe films, this feels more like a direct set-up for Eternals 2 than it does for another MCU project. As Dane approaches the Ebony Blade in the post-credits scene, it’s possible that they’ll be joined by the Black Knight as well.
In an interview with Digital Spy, Harington admitted that he didn’t know what the future held, but that he didn’t rule out returning as the Black Knight.
According to him, “the way I live my life is trying to live in the present, especially with work, so as far as I’m concerned, I’m Dane Whitman in this movie, and if you go and see the movie, you might find out a little more about me,” he said.In order for Dane to have a future that is more than just a human being, I wanted to be a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and this franchise. Hopefully, this is something that will happen down the road.”
