Mehmet Cengiz Oz was born in Cleveland, Ohio, on June 11, 1960. His parents, Suna and Mustafa, came from Turkey. Mehmet grew up with two sisters, Nazlim and Several, in a mixed Muslim household where his father’s side was more traditional and his mother’s side was more secular. He went to Wilmington, Delaware’s Tower Hill School, and then got a degree in biology from Harvard University in 1982. In 1994, Dr. Oz started the Cardiovascular Institute and Integrative Medicine Program at New York-Presbyterian Hospital.
