Diggs turns to rap to pave the way for stardom against his older brother Devine (Martinez), who turned to drug dealing as a way to improve his family’s life.
This story shows how Diggs reunited a dozen young black men torn between music and crime and all came together for his clan. The group fights the forces that oppress them. Wu-Tang: An American Saga is a TV drama developed with the help of RZA, leader and founding member of the Wu-Tang Clan. The show is loosely based on the formation of the legendary rap group and its chart-topping members’ hometown antics on Staten Island. Wu-Tang: An American Saga follows the young RZA as he began to discover his passion for making music in the late 1980s.
We follow Bobby Diggs, aka Prince Rakeem (later his RZA), as he discovers his successes and failures and paves the way to greatness. Wu-Tang: An American Saga was co-executive produced by RZA and Alex Tse.
So you can imagine there is some truth to this story, albeit not without some artistic licence. The show is meant to be historical fiction, but is based on real events.

Wu-Tang: American saga set in the early 1990s. Set in New York City where crack cocaine is rampant. The series follows Bobby Diggs as he tries to find a way out of hardship and drugs through music. A group of friends is torn between crime and music while just trying to survive.
Throughout the first season, we see various events from the group’s history, including RZA’s first foray into rap as a solo artist under the name Prince Rakeem. During this time he was working on the single Ooh I Love You Rakeem, which ran into problems before it was dropped from the label.
